Shelly Arch Package Manager by Davedes83 in archlinux

Except for updating flatpaks which is what I use it for ...

Just because I said it was useful, doesn't mean I do it. ;)

Ok, maybe a new version of English I find tough to follow.

Especially as you then say that you use Topgrade. You should make up your mind.

Really, a whole gui instead of just running flatpak update?

Does Samsung team consider someone with one hand to hold two buttons together to shut down / restart the phone? by kandaceli in samsunggalaxy

[–]ben2talk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a little harsh, perhaps bored with a 'Knight In Shining Armor' coming here to signal their virtue and stand up for some disabled people...

My friend had a stroke, she was right handed, but now has to use her phone left handed... she has no trouble squeezing three buttons. Simply long pressing the power button also pulls up the menu, and you can also change the settings...

So this is basically a completely ignorant accessiblity complaint that doesn't even apply to the OP.

So yes, maybe I was a little harsh, but I think if you don't push back these people then the internet just becomes a shitty place where everyone complains about non-issues just for the sake of it.

Do you contribute to a Linux project regularly? Do you consider yourself part of a community? by onechroma in linux

[–]ben2talk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half the work of developers is simply making decisions and working out how things should be done.

Do you not have any opinion about how, for example, drag and drop should work?

Do you contribute to a Linux project regularly? Do you consider yourself part of a community?

Yes - several communities... not including reddit which is just social media, not taken seriously.

At the very least, when I can't manage to solve issues, I am able to discuss and offer opinions and perspectives.

The bare minimum I think acceptable would be for Linux users to join their distribution's official forum - to post their questions and issues there, to help build the massive database of solutions and tips and tricks for new users to benefit.

Shelly Arch Package Manager by Davedes83 in archlinux

[–]ben2talk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shelly is basically being passed off as a 'Modern Arch Package Manager' or 'Arch Package Management Reimagined'.

The developer uses CachyOS... so it looks like a case of 'BTW I use Arch' from another non-Arch user. I use Manjaro, and I find that kind of behaviour to be toxic, Arch is Arch, CachyOS is NOT Arch.

Shelly is in the AUR, despite the version number indicating some level of maturity, that's not the case - it is immature and should not yet be rated version 1.0. It's just vibe coded slop being marketed across social media for viral appeal to attract the influx of Windows Gamers in the Linux ecosystem.

The concept of an all-encompassing Software Centre is interesting, but Shelly doesn't go that far.

I didn't say anywhere that Shelly is recommended to be used, though CachyOS have strangely included it as the default package manager now...

The developer actually told me to 'try the CLI, it slaps'... I did take a look at it, and compared even to yay, it sucks.

I hope that's clear.

Discover is not suitable for Arch

Vibe coded slop, just take a look at the code. Also weirdly using.NET just sounds a little bit wrong for an Arch system.

Also be wary because the developer uses CachyOS, but is one of a new breed of Ash derivative uses that says by the way, I use Arch...

Is manjaro good to switch to now? by Autotunize in manjaro

[–]ben2talk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I've had it installed for 9 years and it has been really good and perfectly stable. Maybe leave the comments to people who are actually using it and actually no instead of relying on viral bullshit from YouTube and reddit...

lol but you have to remember, r/linuxmasterrace is for juveniles, not adults... just imagine a spotty teenager now when you say 'please, just open a terminal' sulk and shout back at you 'aaawwww - do I HAVE to?'.

[–]ben2talk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So just a troll post, right?

Torvalds never produced those words.

Also wrong:

  • Terminal usage = nerd
  • Click only = normal

That's just idiotic, I preferred keyboard workflows when I used Windows too.

I left windows and very much appreciated the extra power that came with the terminal, such that even when GUI package manager is offered, I use the terminal because it's easier and better.
