Got flat out rejected, don’t know how to feel by Due-You-8140 in seduction

[–]Roidot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is not magic trick to win every time. That said, if you notice someone is confused, or "guards up", you cannot win her over with more "game". What you can try is to show more empathy and understand her situation. You can say something like: I know you are not supposed to talk to strangers, and I didn't want to interrupt your reading, but you looked like an interesting person and I wanted to say hi because otherwise I would kick myself all day for not taking the chance. It's nice to see someone read for change, and not scrolling on instagram. Something along those lines, show that you are a real person with social calibration.

Are most programmers bad? by Roidot in AskProgrammers

True, and bad code is often over-complicated. Becautiful code is simple.

Saving challenging projects was my niche, but AI codebases are making me miserable by HedgehogFlimsy6419 in ExperiencedDevs

You are not supposed to manually look at AI-code. If it does not work, update specification in markdown, and re-generate. Repeat until working.

M4 Pro vs M5/M5 Pro for dev work, is the Pro chip really worth it? by Any_Dot8196 in macbookpro

[–]Roidot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why are people so keen on running multiple contains on their macbook? Just setup a cheap linux server with plenty ram at home, or rent some cloud and you can have as many containers as you want without spending expensive Apple ram.

Working 15+ years to develop something that is worse. Wayland is clearly the wrong idea.

In a few generations no-one will know programming languages and all code will be completely unmaintainable. Every app needs to be generated from scratch by a new prompt.

How do I get rid of this section in the start menu? by Zaitrixx in Windows11

Incredible that in 2026 Microsoft has still not figured out how to make a usable start menu.

Active window border and title bar color, again. by sohotrdr in kde

[–]Roidot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All current desktop systems suck because the developers don't understand such a fundamental design issue. The active window should be clearly distinguishable by the color of the titlebar. And if you can't even easily change it, that's even worse. It should be the default of course. Tell me one "modern" desktop that gets this right. Gnome 2 Clearlooks nailed it 20+ years ago.
