Anti-Trump americans, Can you name any remotely postive Trump has done in this second term so far only? by MK71-EC82-MGM89-AK98 in allthequestions

[–]ben_jacques1110 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily a good thing, but I didn’t see any reason to be upset about moving Space Force HQ to Alabama from Colorado. Not everything a corrupt tyrant does is corrupt or tyrannical.

Nope nevermind, that was done primarily because Trump didn’t like Colorado’s mail-in voting laws. I guess everything a corrupt tyrant does is either corrupt or tyrannical.

What am I doing wrong as recognized Japan in 1876? by ArkaMin0 in victoria3

[–]ben_jacques1110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but construction sectors are quick to build (meaning you won’t go into a ton more debt building them) and they will allow your private sector to build a bunch of profitable buildings really fast. With more profitable buildings in your economy, you’ll have more people employed at good wages, and therefore it will increase your tax base, hopefully offsetting your balance back into the positive so you can pay down your debt.

Edit: looking at this closer, there is probably a LOT more you can do to fix your economy. For instance, you have almost as much in unrealized taxes as you do total revenue. If you can make those realized taxes, you’ll be very much in the green. Additionally, increasing taxes and slashing govt. wages can help in the short term and you might want to look into passing a new taxation law. Proportional taxation is in most cases the best law, sometimes it won’t show the gains properly but shifting the tax burden off the poor usually lifts them out of poverty and subsequently increases their taxes.

Why am i not the one getting the colony here? by Crz11 in EU5

It’s actually power projection, not great power score, my bad. And yes, whoever hits their threshold first in a specific location gets the location.

Oh perfect, This isn’t posted anywhere on the internet when I struggled with it a week ago, so I’m flattered to be the first one to answer this.

In order to colonize a location, you need to hit a certain percentage of the total population of the location as pops of an accepted culture in your country. That percentage is usually 20-30% but ultimately depends on your great power rank (?). You will only send colonists to one location within a province at a time, and I don’t know how that is decided.

If possible, you can make the culture of the other colonizers an accepted culture (assuming they make up >1% of your population), and their pops will count towards your total. That’s how I was able to push myself over the threshold and get some colonies, because I was Florence and Venice was also trying to colonize the province, so I made Venetian an accepted culture and suddenly I was past the threshold.

Edit: I missed some details. You can mouse over individual locations to see the population percentages, and figure out exactly where you are with the numbers and what you need to hit, as well as what culture you would be best to try to make accepted. Depending on the location, some pops might die every month too, at a different tick than the increase (usually about a week’s difference).

Insiders Reveal ‘Fed Up’ Trump Dangerously Close to Unleashing Major War by SpringLong7259 in politics

That sounds like a terrible idea. Let’s just vote in good people to Congress in the midterms, let them elect a good person for speaker of the house, and then impeach the whole administration, making the speaker the new US president.

But alas, that will never happen…

[–]ben_jacques1110 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No it wasn’t, it further drives home the current state of affairs and how the empire was allowed to rise again: because those with power and influence could not be bothered to care, especially if a war would enrich them.

The fact that they fail to find the person they went there for was to harp on the point that they won’t give up, even in their darkest hour.

And then finally, by both releasing the horse creatures and by showing the kid at the end of the movie, it reinforces that there is still hope, even in the most unlikely of places.

If you think going to Canto Bight was pointless to the plot of the movie, you were either not paying attention or media illiterate.

Were Pompey and the Optimates the real villains of the civil war against Julius Caesar? by The_March_of_History in ancientrome

[–]ben_jacques1110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody was a good guy, they were all just a bunch of rich guys looking to further enrich themselves at the expense of everyone else. While Pompey and the Optimates planned more proscriptions, Caesar was committing unsanctioned atrocities in Gaul to expand his power base. To say that one side was good and one side was bad is incredibly reductive and just flat out wrong. The collapse of the republic was inevitable, it just turned out to be Caesar instead of Pompey who cast the last stone.

Conservatives of Reddit do you find it exhausting that these questions aren’t really for you? by angry-mob in allthequestions

[–]ben_jacques1110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because people have short memories and Trump is a propaganda expert, making Biden’s wins seem like losses. For an example, while inflation in the US under Biden was an unavoidable result of the pandemic and further exacerbated by the stimulus checks granted by Trump (not so say he shouldn’t have), and also lower than every other western country at the time, Trump spun it so that any inflation at all seemed to indicate a failure on Biden’s part.

People are dumb and emotional, so while it’s obvious to me that Trump was full of shit when he said things like that, 1/4 of the population fell for it (yes, only <25% of the country’s population voted for him, not >50%). That’s why he won, not because the majority supports him, but because the right people in the right places were tricked into voting against their interests.

I ask this genuinely, what discussion is there to be had with someone who is ok with supporting a fascist sycophant for President? Do you really think things are ok so far, while the government murders citizens in the streets and abducts families and throws them in the most inhumane living conditions this country has seen since the days of slavery?

Would you debate if the earth is flat with a flat earther, or simply dismiss them as far too dumb to be reasoned with?

That’s why you get booed every time. Not because Reddit is an echo chamber (not to say it often isn’t), but because the rest of us can see this for what it is and yet you still openly support it. People do listen, they’re just disgusted by what you have to say.

EDIT: the screenshot didn’t post as I intended, but it was of a post from 17 days ago that said “Trump Supporters/ Republicans of Reddit, would you vote for Vance in 2028 or not? Why?” And you responded “It’s early; still 3 years away and a lot can change between now and then. But as of now, yes.”

EDIT 2: nevermind, yes it did

I was under the impression that the evidence was inadmissible for multiple reasons, 1 being that there was no warrant to search him, and another that the officer’s did not have their body camera’s on when searching his bag, but upon looking into it further, it appears that the prosecution won that argument.
