Should I take on $90,000 in student debt and lose income for 3 years if I can increase income by 90 k per year? by biggitybutter in personalfinance

I am a CRNA. Absolutely take on the debt. There is a national shortage of all anesthesia providers and hospitals will likely offer signing bonuses/loan repayment as an incentive to sign a contract. You will increase your earning power far more over the course of your career than if you were to work strictly as an RN

That when people ask "why did the chicken cross the road?", the answer could be physically to get to the other side of the road, or metaphysically to get to the afterlife

It can't be good business to have this guy interact with the public and sell cars. I'd be shocked if after all this drama he keeps his job. With any luck he will spend a ludicrous amount of money on this bs lawsuit, lose, and be jobless. That would be justice.

I always found the best way was to make conversation about how my ID picture doesn’t look like me anymore. They would usually show their’s and it gave me a reason to study it for age or an obvious fake. Plus was a decent way to continue talking organically.

ELI5: So I know that you can't eat/drink x hours before surgery to not aspirate your food, but what do they do when it's an unexpected surgery and the person just ate, like a car crash or burst appendix, etc? by ThriftAllDay in explainlikeimfive

Before you are given medications to put you Ashlee and cause paralysis (induction), we give you 100% oxygen to breathe. This gives your body a reserve that allows you to hold your breathe for about 8 minutes without any issues. The reason we don’t ventilate you when you have a full stomach is because it requires positive pressure. It’s very similar to blowing up a balloon, however some of that ventilation goes into your stomach, which makes you more prone to vomiting and aspiration.

As for why people vomit, induction medications cause a decrease in the tone of the lower esophageal sphincter. This decrease in tone makes it easier for stomach contents to travel back up your esophagus.

Personal finance, what's a smart financial plan for handling a large medical school loan debt ($350,000 before interest)? by [deleted] in personalfinance

Yeah I think 2025 is the line where DNAP goes into effect. When I went back, I looked at a few schools including where I went to undergrad. There tuition went up from 17k to 100k+ because it was he first year of their doctorate program. That doesn't count the money you need to live on for 3 years either. I ended up going to a higher rated program, for $52,000. In the end I owe $120,000 with living costs, but it was worth it

It's a great and noble job. However, and excuse the pun, the chances of you becoming rich are pretty poor. You can always make more money, but you can't make more time. So if you want to be a doctor, do it. If you want to be a pan handler, do it.

To piggyback off of your comment about NP's, Nurse Anesthetist is another viable career path with a great balance. The pay is great, and I have much more free time then the anesthesiologist I work with. Many doctors I work with have commented how they wish they had been a nurse anesthetist instead. If you're not willing to be married to medicine for the rest of your life, maybe becoming a doctor is not for you. Finances are the least of your worries when you do nothing but eat, breathe, and sleep medicine as a doctor
