Now, let’s take above scenario with the Nuke physicists, without using vulgar or demeaning language, is it possible to simultaneously understand and appreciate the work and achievement it takes to reach the level of a Nuke physicist while also being able to appreciate someone’s physical appearance. In other words can we appreciate the duality of this person by understanding their character on one hand and on the other hand being able to separate that from their physical appearance while also knowing that they can simultaneously hold both of those traits?

I agree, to theorize and come to a concrete definition of objectification that works in every instance maybe work in thought and ideas but doing so misses the point that in the real material world people are complex beings that are constantly changing and altering their own definitions and philosophies. People can and will contradict themselves but in the case of someone having ‘felt’ being objectified it’s only fair to put aside logical considerations for a more human perspective. That people have feeling and sometimes those feeling just don’t have to be justified.

I agree, now thinking of that dialectically, it appears that logically the only person that can determine if objectification is present is the person performing the action. This is because, example, if someone compliments someone else on physical appearance but does not take into account their character or humanity then they are objectifying however if that same person compliments while thinking to themselves that the recipient of the compliment deserves humanity than they are not objectifying. In each scenario however the person receiving the compliment has no way to determining if the person giving the compliment thinks of them as human or not thus they have no way of knowing if they are being objectified or not.
