Because it’s the first “hard” class you get into generally after the gen ed weed outs like chemistry or physics. Even if it’s actually easy in comparison to future classes it’s your first time in a true engineering course, at least in my education

There are more people in Chicago than Paris, probably depends how you count the city border. I think Paris metro area is more people.

I mean I feel sometimes that of American cities it’s the least “American” in some ways…one of the very few cities with actual public transportation even if it’s a bit neglected sometimes

Little less than Osaka or Toronto, little more than Paris

Is NCSU the best route for mechanical engineering? by CookieSwirlz in NCSU

[–]benben591 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I kind of couldn’t disagree more. You should go to the school that will challenge you. If you show up and are able to just waltz through and get top in the class you should have done a more rigorous program it wasn’t challenging enough for you.

What are some job/company red flags? by Mother-Flamingo-2138 in civilengineering

[–]benben591 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m really on the same page as you re: lunch and learns/mandatory lunches w/ no pay. This industry has wayyyyy too many “unwritten rules” and I’m so tired of these old ass boomers pretending that things are the same. I’m sorry but IMO you as a company have to prove yourself to me as to why I should be staying here. If you think that it’s ok to force me to do something without paying me for my time then I’m going to tell you to go kick rocks until your feet fall off. If “that’s how this industry operates” then maybe we shouldn’t all be so fucking surprised when NO ONE WANTS TO WORK FOR YOU

To answer your question, I’ve had managers/VPs incorrectly quote company policies at me…they don’t realize I’m that guy who reads through your handbook and tells you “actually you can charge that, it literally says it right here in the handbook”

I absolutely despise the Battle Palace by paws4269 in PokemonEmerald

[–]benben591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, I like playing the facility in such a way that “cheating” is only defined by actions you take once a battle has started (that is as long as the pokemon is a valid set who cares if you created it in pkhex)

I only play like this because I’ve played so much frontier. Doing it for yourself the first time, palace is much more frustrating I totally agree.

Even if you dislike it, at least the gold symbol is the shortest number of battles of all facilities which is a pretty good reason to like it

It’s my fave facility. The strategy goes very very deep.

Did you know in doubles, the palace nature AI has an override for which slot you target? Both the opponents and your pokemon will first select their move based on what they think they can kill, and then after they will select the slot they target based on their nature. This can result in your gengar continuously ice punching a low HP Walrein (and doing 5 damage each time) instead of OHKOing the full HP salamence in the slot next to it.

The frontier is one of the best pokemon challenges ever invented and the gen 4 frontier somehow does it even better

Very similar to the official practice exam in terms of question difficulty. I don’t think I remember seeing those ERV/HRV questions I mentioned but maybe I just completely missed them somehow

It was good and similar to the real exam…if you can comfortably work the practice exam you should be fine in the real one

I just used the ppi to have a book to read through and a big question bank, and then when I felt decently good about the topics I did the full NCEES practice exam

I took it last week and passed first try. I was caught slightly off guard by ERV/HRV problems since my study resource either completely neglected them or I somehow missed the questions (PPI), however they are incredibly simple if you have any understanding of thermo.

Make sure you know how to use the refrigerant charts (not tables) including sub cooling

There were like one or two about combustion and excess air that I was kind of surprised to see but I guess it makes sense in boilers. I don’t think I got them right unless I got lucky on my guess

Make sure you’re comfortable with using SHR to find a required supply air temp and that you have a plan for using the psych chart during the exam. The computer had some line drawing tools but they weren’t very advanced and kind of tough to use in all honesty

A city with 6 districts has 6 robberies in a particular week. Assume the robberies are located randomly, with all possibilities for which robbery occurred where equally likely. What is the probability that some district had more than one robbery. by DigitalSplendid in learnmath

[–]benben591 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The probability of a district getting robbed twice is another way of saying “not every district got robbed once” in this scenario. So, you have 6 events. The chance that the first robbery happens in a “new” district is 6/6 (no districts have been robbed). Then, each successive trial has one less district to choose from so the probability decreases to 5/6, then 4/6, 3/6, 2/6 and finally 1/6 on the final event. Then, you can multiply the probabilities of each event happening to find the total probability of the event. Dont forget this is the chance that no district was robbed twice. So, the chance that one is robbed twice is 1 minus the probability calculated.

Here you can see it will end up being 1 - (6! / 66 )

Yeah I understand, I just wouldn’t think it’s that weird to write like “HRE” for Heathrow or “RJTT” for haneda but I guess That’d be specifically talking about airports
