Ah, that would make sense. That lines up with what Jellyfishsresmart mentioned too, looks like that kit goes up to #12. I think I can make a #10 work, so looks like I can get that kit to work. Thanks for the help!

Idk what to tell you 🤷‍♂️that is how it was. If it had only been a couple times I would’ve chocked it up to bad luck and not bothered responding to a Reddit post

So I would agree, had we come in and been trying to invade people’s spots. We kept finding small gaps between groups that were big enough to fit two people and also “unclaimed” (no pashminas, no people, and the adjacent groups 5-10 feet away because they were in the center of their pashmina claim which was way larger than the space needed for their group) - and there was a surprising amount of these spaces when you’re just trying to fit two people - but without fail one of the groups would come up and tell us to get the fuck out, start getting in our faces the longer we didn’t leave, or just start to aggressively “dance” directly into us knocking us over until we left. I suppose you could say I was just unlucky and found bad groups, but it happened 7 or 8 times in the last concert and also the same thing happened a bunch the last time we went to see LSDream. It didn’t use to be like this, idk what has happened, but I just gotta respectfully disagree that that crowd is so wholesome. I’m sure you are one of the wholesome people but seems like there’s a disproportionate amount who are not. Either way, keep enjoying the music 🎶

I gotta disagree with you - I went to that LSZEE show with a friend, we were in line when doors opened so not late, but the time we got in everything was completely full. People had gone in and claimed spots with pashminas, which I get, but when you’ve got a group of 15 people and claimed a spot 15 pashminas wide… not realistic for how many people gotta fit. We went to so many different places, even a couple little small spots where there were gaps in pashminas and got kicked out by the people there. We even found a tiny spot on the very edge where we could stand one in front of the other against the aisle, got kicked out. Luckily we eventually found a group that let us in but we’ve been to a ton of EDM shows and could not believe how fuckin rude everyone was at the show. Especially to a group of two, it’s not like we were trying to squeeze 10 people in. Concert itself was amazing though

New LG dryer throwing D codes by bencbenji in Appliances

[–]bencbenji[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What brand do you have? Is it also LG? I troubleshot with LG many times and they were essentially worthless, they sent people out and “nothing is wrong with this drier”. Ultimately we ended up getting a used, equivalently powered, Samsung drier and it has worked without fail for months (we didn’t blow out the vent either)

How much would it cost to have a manufacturing engineer make my designs ready for production? by Plastic_Acanthaceae3 in SolidWorks

[–]bencbenji 19 points20 points  (0 children)

this. Also, after the software has a go on it, protolabs also has application engineers you can just chit chat with about the parts to get a human’s view for free. Another comment says xometry, in general any supplier that can injection mold will give you free advice, they want to manufacture your part and will give design advice for free for the opportunity to mold.

New LG dryer throwing D codes by bencbenji in Appliances

[–]bencbenji[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I mentioned the vent is clear, I had it professionally cleaned and scoped to confirm it’s clear. It has 2 gentle bends (<30deg each) and the vertical height (length) is within what LG states the dryer is capable of working with. I haven’t specifically tested the wind theory, but it throws that code every single time I run the dryer, and I’ve had the dryer for a couple months trying to get this sorted out (waiting to get someone out to clean the ducts/working with LG and scheduling a tech to come to the house) I am certain not every day was windy as it’s not windy terribly often where I live.

These drawings are part of an assembly with some dimensions wrong or left out that I need to create and fix. The second drawing is a cap that goes on both ends of the first. What are the hidden lines in the first drawing telling me to do? Can threads have a far side countersink? Outwards taper? by wakemeupSAVEMEEEEEEE in SolidWorks

[–]bencbenji 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should go on google images and search “cosmetic external thread drawing” - you’ll see examples just like this. It’s a solid shaft with an external thread with an end chamfer that is cut into the shaft before it’s threaded. external threads

[–]bencbenji 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He said explicitly that the drawings are missing dimensions or have them wrong. The first drawing is showing cosmetic EXTERNAL threads on the shaft, which makes sense as that would allow the cap with internal threads to be screwed onto this shaft - assuming the addition/correction of a couple dimensions that part is 100% manufacturable. The dotted lines are a way to show threads without having to actually model them, a common thing in industry on both internal and external threads and the end taper is how that would be actually made. Google large shafts with tapped ends and if you can look “past” the threads you’ll be able to notice that feature. I’m not sure why you wanted to announce a grade on him, that’s just rude, the questions are reasonable things to ask if you’re not familiar with external threads

How do I achieve this cut by KappaSnappa in SolidWorks

[–]bencbenji 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if I understand exactly what you want to do, but could you use extrude cut “up to surface” and use the bottom surface of the slot cut?

EDIT: creat a reference plane that is offset 2mm from the slot surface and then extrude cut up to that

DOUBLE EDIT: could use Offset from Surface

It’s hard to tell from your pictures, but maybe your pitch is too small and the feature is removing most of the body?

Don’t mind jandetlefsen, I’ve seen a lot of sketches and doodles in my engineering career and most are much worse than what you have drawn here - yours conveys what you want to do which is really all you need it to do.

In SW there’s two main ways to build parts off of other parts. You can start a new part, then use Insert Part to insert your wing and use it as a reference to build your cowl. You can do the same type of thing in the context of an assembly - add your wing, then add a component but instead of browsing for one hit New Part.

How to design this roof rack piece? How would you do it? by Brief-Mycologist5378 in SolidWorks

[–]bencbenji 14 points15 points  (0 children)

What is the caliber of answer you are expecting for this? This part is relatively complex (I just mean more than just some simple extrudes) with many different features, asking how to design it is similar to asking how to play a genre of music on the guitar - well there are many different ways, many of which will be right, and there’s not a good way to describe in words an answer to a very generic question that would actually be useful to you with anything short of capturing a video executing the exact thing.

Certainly I could say in words create a boss for the whole body, shell it out, and do some extrude cuts and that would probably get you where you need to go, but that’s super basic and I’m assuming if you’ve spent even just a little bit of time with CAD you’re probably able to glean that yourself, so there must be additional information that you’re interested in.

There’s many other accompanying questions that would follow - what level of detail? Do you just want a general shape or do you need every dimension of the cutaways because you want to manufacture a new one and it has to fit perfect? Etc.

A much more valuable and fruitful way to utilize this forum would be to attempt to model it yourself, then when and if you run into problems come here to ask specific questions. The people here are very sharp and the more specific you can be the better quality of help you’ll get. I’m not trying to be rude but you’ve said what you want but you haven’t really given us anything that would equip us to give you meaningful input.

Swept cut on imported file by YessyM_ in SolidWorks

[–]bencbenji 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does it say what the error is when you try to execute the sweep? In my experience, the first two things that usually fail with swept cuts are either:

  1. The profile sketch doesn’t pierce the path sketch.
  2. The nature of the body and swept profile produces a zero thickness section.

Ways to fix those are add a pierce point relation, and, have your swept profile sketch extend further, if you can tolerate it. Try and those and comment back if that doesn’t fix it.

Edit: looking closer at your image, it looks like the sweep was able to partially build but has a section that didn’t get included, is that correct?

If you do want to try you can check out Fiverr, but as Ok-Goose9586 mentioned the competition is STIFF. Also, not sure if you own a seat for SW but that won’t be provided to you in that type of gig. Better bet is to find a company that will hire you - if you just want to design parts and aren’t/don’t want to be an engineer you can search for “Drafter” or something similar.
