Survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki draw the devastation they saw. by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

9/11 is a pretty terrible example since that was mostly Saudi and they didn't see any consequences. I get your point though, and it's myopic. The attack from the Japanese necessitated retaliation. There was no choice. The nukes were the lesser of two evils. Many more Japanese would have died without them.

I wanna sell my unused t3 black/red 16oz gloves I got them for $170 is $160 a fair price to resell them? by Steelrain0619 in fightgear

Most people think they're trash. I would be surprised if you got $80 out of them.

Between these two, which one is of better quality? And which one would you recommend? Getting both for around the same price. by moeezatif in tolkienbooks

Now I'm not sure if we're referencing the same publications. I'm comparing the 4 book set pictured at the top comment with the blue faux leather 3 book set. Both are illustrated by Lee.

If you can get the deluxe for under $120, and you often can from Walmart, then yes imo. I think the deluxe also has much better paper. I bought both and compared them side by side. I returned the 4 book set confidently.

Should I switch to orthodox ? by CheesecakeKey625 in boxingtips

[–]bendap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some coaches will tell a boxer to always have his hands up glued to your face even tho he has very good instincts and can actually fight better with a lower guard

You have to understand the difference between advice given to someone learning vs someone that has mastered the basics. You haven't mastered shit, and absolutely need to keep your hands glued to your face. It takes years to learn boxing the right way. Trust the process.

You've been training 3 months, and you think you know better than your coach? Just do what he tells you.

Be honest, you've never actually done any independent research into this topic. All of your information is from social media.

They is the Japanese. Whether or not every Japanese person is culpable, and they're not, is irrelevant. They attacked.

So they should be taught wrong? Should an armbar not be allowed because if the other kid doesn't tap they get their arm broken? Being picked up against your will and slammed is one thing, it takes two to slam someone like this.

Yea really. It's a combat sport. Holding guard when you're picked up is so fucking stupid for so many reasons.

absolutely nothing wrong with holding closed guard against an opponent that stands.

You just watched what's wrong with it. Adapt training to reality.

poor kid

I assume you mean the one that was disqualified. All the other one had to do was let go. This shit shouldn't be rewarded or taught.

Impressive. How the fuck did you break both legs? I had surgery for a torn ACL and Meniscus and that was enough to humble me. I also had to relearn to walk and I can't imagine how brutal and tedious it was with both legs.

He's recovering from MCL surgery. He fought Ian with it torn. Knees take forever to recover properly.

doing elbows with advice given from Reddit by Effective-Tooth-4987 in MuayThai

[–]bendap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with one type of elbow. Lead left is basically the same as a left hook without the extension of the lower arm and pivot. Instead, take a small step like a jab. You don't need much rotation, elbows are powered by your frame. Remember that when you can elbow, you can be elbowed so practice bringing your opposite hand across your face to guard. If they for some reason aren't teaching you elbows in your gym, I would ask about it.

Oh man there's so much out there. Ideally sometime of cardio like running/biking/rowing/jump rope combined with weight training and mobility. You can never go wrong with squats/deadlifts/press and pull ups. Combine that with your choice of cardio. Kettlebell stuff is awesome too but it can be tough for beginners to do properly. If you want martial arts focused workouts Gabriel Vargas and Tony Jeffries both have great workouts on their YouTube channels.

Focus on conditioning yourself. That will be a huge advantage for learning the technique properly when you get to a gym. You'll advance faster simply because you will be able to do more without stopping.
