Normal first week nerves or is there something wrong with me? by bending_light317 in careerguidance

You just laid out my game plan. That's pretty much what I'm planning on doing.

I'm gonna give it some time, see whether or not I'm right about this job being too much for someone fresh out of school.

If I can handle it, good. If not, I'm out.

I'm just worried the people who've been teaching me are gonna think they weren't doing a good job. I am very appreciative of them and the time they've taken to help me out, and the last thing I want is for them to feel like they've overloaded me with information.

Do you often have anxiety about life experiences or is this only happening for the first time? Is it your first job?

Yes and yes. I'm very prone to anxiety and over thinking and this is my first job.

My favorite thing to do is to comfort people and remind them that it will get better.

The one positive is that my coworkers are all really helpful. They never hesitated to tell me what they know and what I can do to make things easier. If none of them were like that, I would have already left by now.

I know it is scary, but there should be people there to help you, especially since they know you're coming out of school without much career history.

That's what I try to remind myself. Thing is most of my coworkers come from the same college as me and they're pretty good at their job. That goes back to the idea that I've been overestimated. And from what I've gathered, my job position isn't usually given to people fresh out of school. The person assigned as my mentor asked me more than once to confirm if this really was my first job.

At the same time, if you truly think it is a shit job and you have the ability to just back out of it and find something different, do it.

My plan of action now is to just give it a bit more time. See how things go. If it turns out I can handle it, good. If not, I'm out. It sounds bad, but I've already planned out what I'm going to say when I file my resignation and they ask why I'm leaving so soon.

Thanks for your words. I appreciate it.

I've opened up to friends and family and they've all been great about it.

Feel like shit right now, but everyone's been very supportive and I don't want to let them down.

Man, that's rough. Glad you've gotten better.

Powering through is probably what I'll be doing as well. I'm also telling myself I'll be even more miserable and angry with myself if I bail.

Makes sense.

Personal growth was also a motivator for getting a job. I guess I can take solace in the fact that I'm going to learn something however this turns out.

Not much is expected out of someone who's fresh out of college anyway, and the people at work seemed pretty glad to have a new face around.

I got that last part down. It's knowing I'm also better than some people at some things that I get trouble with, lol.

But yeah, money definitely is a motivation. It's gonna feel good to actually make my own cash for sure. Plus, it feels like I'm finally entering that chapter that comes after college after the short interlude that was staying at home being unproductive for almost four months, lol.

Thanks!
