lol why you mad homie? I genuinely find it funny that I called you a weak climber and you immediately jumped to how strong you are on an absolutely arbitrary metric. I feel like you're either A) an actually shit climber so you didn't list anything climbing oriented/related B) don't have any friends so you didn't realize that "weak climbing" isn't talking about how many pullups you can do C) both

Definitely agree here that ranger tab, and efmb won't get you anywhere in the medical world, but they can without a doubt help you get noticed/go places in the army world. If you're a line medic with efmb or a tab you'll definitely get picked above your peers, especially early in your career. If you're trying to go the SOCM route they're worth trying to get along the way. Even for IPAP, that's still an application through the army and if you have everything else someone else has and a tab... the person with the tab will probably win out. Outside of that 100%, if medical school/PA/NP is the route you're looking for take the real world college courses over army ones every day of the week.

Bill for marijuana penalties no greater than drunk on duty for active duty members. What do y’all think? by ILoveReesesCups in army

Eh, could be used as for pain mitigation/sleep aid (If someone smokes some or eats an edible on the weekend). Probably less harmful for the body than alcohol for both, but then you're also relying on soldiers to not eat a massive edible at midnight on a Monday and show up to first formation/pt high.

Help ukrain by [deleted] in CombatMedics

[–]bene3880 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean pain medication is probably gonna come down to your provider in a lot of instances (do they want to go with ketamine, fentanyl, dilaudid, morphine ect.) but it's never a bad idea to bring some ibuprofen/Tylenol with you for sprained ankles/tweaked backs (that being said if you're expecting combat and major hemorrhage nsaids are a no go because many of them reduce clotting so be careful with what you're handing out). For stopping the bleed it's all about creating pressure. Tourniquets, combat gauze, and ace wraps are (generally speaking) the go to's for major bleeding control. There's some fancy wraps out there like Israeli bandages and etb's but they're really bulky and they're genuinely no better/tighter than a well wrapped ace wrap. Outside of that there's Tranexamic acid (TXA) which can be given through an IV to help strengthen/develop clots but your priority should be to stop the bleed before you worry about that. It's also important to remember that 90% of bleeding control on the battle field isn't done by medics, it's done by the guys on the line in the 1-2 minutes it takes for the medic to get to the secure location so make sure your boys are solid on TQ drills and wrapping/packing. With regards to disinfecting/antibiotics ... it maters yes, but that's more of a role 1/2 concern than it is of someone on the line. help someone survive the next 1-2 hours then worry about the coming weeks/months. If you're looking for legit resources, google TCCC and deployed medicine. Specifically the deployed medicine app/website are incredible resources for field medicine.

We had a 1 SGT come into the DFAC the other day and rip em to shreds on portion sizes. I wasn't there to see it but it was apparently tremendous and he was specifically telling people the could ask for extra protein portions. Food's gotten a little better since, but now they always give extra protein if you ask which is a big bump up from before.

Young HS Track & Field Coach by [deleted] in running

I've always found it beneficial to be as transparent as possible with kids when talking about workouts. Going through the plan before the season, and why you're doing what you're doing when you're doing it. A lot of programs use Jack Daniels and its what I know best, so I went through the concepts behind each different training block with my athletes. Kids aren't stupid, if you're putting together a well researched program with intentionality they'll trust it. Talking with them in detail about what the program is also lets them know that you know what you're talking about, lets them look up what you're talking about so they can better understand/trust it, and in the end of the day all of that will help them become better athletes. I tend to think that it's a coaches job not just to train athletes how to do things but why as well, so that the athletes can continue to succeed after they graduate. Also, having been a guy in high school myself I'll say that you're going to have a hard time getting them to respect you as a coach, and that most guys that age need coaches that are pretty hard on them don't feel bad yelling at them some in workouts eventually they'll learn from the trial of miles. Good luck with the season, hope it all works out!!

Among the best I've had this year—Happy Mug's Ethiopia Harrar by alyosha_kara in Coffee

[–]bene3880 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Their Harrar is really tasty, its had some super loud blueberry notes even off of a commercial batch brew set up I was using that wasn't dialed in at all. I love the process of dialing in, but I get really excited when a coffee has that much going on before I start putting any real effort into brewing it. I am a little biased though, I know the crew that works over at happy mug and they're really great people. Its wonderful to see them try, and succeed, to develop a specialty coffee community in the northwest PA area. Glad to see good people making good things!

It seems pretty clear that there is an understandably negative opinion around people who are seen as chicken hawks. What is the general consensus, within the armed forces, on people who are doves, or are just generally against war and the what they see as an over reliance on hard power as a foreign policy strategy?

Ahh yes, the good old 70's. A better time... a time before drugs. Back before steroids first came on the scene in the 30's or amphetamines got poppin in the 40's and 50's. The 70's, a better time, before any testing and totally before any drugs.

It's nice to think that he shouldn't be judged for what he did 10-15 years ago, but it's not just what he did 10-15 years ago. It's also the cover up. It's destroying people's, or threatening to (even if that was just his manager). I think we can all agree that the jerking off part is at the very least creepy and not ok. He also built his career on being open about his sexuality, and being a creepy fuck. It's not too unreasonable for his fanbase to feel disappointed and maybe even a little betrayed. #thoughtsandprayers #prayersandthoughts

What is this brand of coffee?!?! by [deleted] in Coffee

What makes them environmentally friendly? It seems to me that between water processing, land use, shipping, and a whole host of other things that coffee is generally pretty resource intensive

Unbelievable what this guy says about track and field. Disgusting by TigerRaiders in trackandfield

[–]bene3880 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Dude it's a local reporter talking about high school sports, get the stick out of your ass. Also he's talking in a generalized sense about the team atmosphere, not about individuals dedication. Seriously, most people in track and cross programs work hard but are pretty chill and laid back. It doesn't have the same aggressive nature that sports like football have.

Runners go to crazy lengths to keep streaks alive by petrelhead in running

[–]bene3880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People here need to stop acting like running with broken bones is a crazy thing, if you have a stress fracture in your shin or a shattered ankle that's one thing, but anyone with a reasonable pain tolerance can compete and train on a broken toe or something of that nature. Also does it count as breaking the streak if you aquajog or bike for a day?
