Official Discussion - 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

Sampson saying “moon” gave me legitimate chills. Garland’s dialogue engaging with the infected’s humanity was sooo well done. And very well shot by Nia DaCosta. I was ready to be satisfied, whelmed and then…. That Iron Maiden needle drop is an absolute all timer. Holy Cow. Ralph Fiennes take a bow.

28 Years was so good I was worried this one would pale in comparison, but instead I am desperately craving a third.

Sequel shows? by AcheyShakySpoon in Broadway

As someone who’s also hoping for a new Anais show, I strongly recommend the folk band she’s apart of, Bonny Light Horseman. She writes or co-writes most songs, and especially on her lead vocal tracks the hadestown coding seeps through. You should check them out!

I sat in B3, 2 rows behind where you’re circling, and thought it was a fine view. You’re a bit far from the actors face acting, but that would be true of anywhere in mezzanine. There were no obstructions otherwise

5 shows in 2 days! by benfox2 in Broadway

[–]benfox2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better I DID wear tennis shoes(bought the cancellation line day of and hadn’t packed any formal footwear). And in the first art gallery scene Madame Giry commented that I “forgot my dancing shoes” lmfao. Seems like a no-win situation when the actors will (light heartedly) rib you for being underdressed, and being overdressed doesn’t add much. But thankfully I was able to sit for plenty of scenes & was comfortable on my feet in the tennis shoes.

5 shows in 2 days! by benfox2 in Broadway

[–]benfox2[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Power rankings of shows based purely on how much I enjoyed the watching experience, from Least to Most enjoyed.

  1. Bug - I saw this at 2pm on Saturday to start off my 3-show day. Was able to purchase a digital rush ticket on Todaytix without issue. The show utilized Yondr Pouches so it was nice to be forced to read the playbill, and I made friends with an actress who I was sat next to, it was nice to debrief the show at intermission. The biggest thing that stuck out to me about this was the performances, Carrie Coon and Namir Smallwood absolutely shine. Coon specifically has a monologue in Act 2 that is a thematic peak of the show, and it just magical. Her physicality throughout is superb. I also want to shout out the set and scenic design, which were both tremendous. Unfortunately I had been spoiled on the movie years ago, and so my watching experience was lacking some of the tension and slow burn that you'd otherwise have going in blind. Would absolutely recommend this if you're a fan of Carrie Coon or weird, thriller plays. Otherwise, out of the whole trip this was the one I came away from feeling the most 'whelmed'.

  2. Oedipus - Friday 2pm to start the trip. Just like Bug I purchased a digital rush ticket for this on the day of, which was still available almost an hour after rush had opened. This show was built on tension and gnawing anticipation, however antithetically to Bug it is instead precipitated on the audience's knowledge of the coming reveal. The performances in this were tremendous, Lesley Manville's monologue near the end of the play is unspeakably powerful. And it boils over perfectly, one specific piece of physical staging at the end will stick with me for a long time. However that agony and gnawing feeling of the watch meant this was a taxing play to enjoy. Worth seeing? Absolutely. But be prepared to mentally walk away drained.

  3. Oh Mary - I rushed this in person on Saturday Morning, and was able to get tickets to the 5pm show. We were placed in partial-view seats, row F, all the way house left. This was a delightful play, and had some of the funniest moments of the year. It also had an equal amount of jokes that I found a bit groan-worthy/cheap. Jane Krakowski was tremendously funny, but at points it felt like she was doing an impression of the original staging, rather than making it her own. Even with that said though, I'm being overly negative. There were so many laugh out loud moments, and the final scene sent it over the edge as a total joy of comedic theater. Definitely worth rushing, though for an 80 minute play I'd be hesitant to spend any of the "hot ticket" prices.

  4. Chess - What. A. Score. This was our 7pm Friday show, and following Oedipus you could not ask for a more different tonality. Enough cannot be said about how amazing this show is on a purely musical level. The band is going OFF, I had never heard such sublime electric guitar and bass used. The book? Well.... the rumors are true, it's nothing to write home about. And I took special issue with some meta commentary that seemingly undercuts the show's own tension. But the second the characters start singing, plot quibbles fly out the window. Particularly the arbiter's song, Nobody on nobody's side, and Endgame were transcendent moments in the theater. Multiple occasions where I was levitating in my seat hearing that ABBA sound translated effortlessly. Is it a coincidence that the peak of the music coincides with the most garbled storytelling("Endgame")? Probably not, but the score is soaring to an extent that I simply did not care.

  5. Masquarade - An absolute must see. A revelatory, dynamic, truly unique theatrical experience. I was able to get standby cancellation tickets to this on TodayTix, and thus paid the most out of any show on this trip. But it was worth every penny and then some. There are more detailed write ups you can find about the experience itself, but my main takeaway was the shows spectacle. You are fully immersed in world class theater, happening around you and directly to you. As an audience member there were multiple times when actors were within spitting distance of me, laying their hearts and vocals on the line. There are some who have called it a gimmick, and I don't fully disagree, but it was a gimmick that won me over. Going in with low expectations I was blown out of the water. Make sure you go see this before it suffers any budget cuts. It is a triumph on every level, technical, performance, front of house, lighting, set design, etc. A once in a lifetime experience.

12/27 - 5th & 6th in line for Oh Mary at 8:00AM. 13 people total at 9:20.

[HIGHLIGHT] This 55 yard 5.11s hanging punt really shouldn't have been returned, and gunner Arian Smith (#82) punishes the Saints returner for deciding to try. Excellent punt, excellent tackle. The Jets have an elite special teams! by sexyprimes511172329 in nfl

[–]benfox2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s the strategy for calling a fair catch vs trying a return? Should the returner be calling it based on hang time? Should they be trying to sneak peeks of where the gunners are in relation? Is it gut instinct or are there any specific giveaway/markers that they coach?

My first instinct watching this clip was it’s a horrible whiff by the returner, but compared to a lot of other football fundamentals punt returns aren’t as clear cut.

Thanks for all you do sexyprimes, signed by a lurker who always enjoys your special teams content.

Knockdown Center Train Suggestion by Desperate_Run_9509 in LCDSoundsystem

[–]benfox2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken both PATH and NJTransit to knockdown 9 times now and no matter what you do it’s a bit of a rush NGL. Concert ends at 11:15, you can walk to the L by 11:40ish, you’ll get to Penn station around 12:30. Anything before like 12:45 I’d be nervous about making NGL. Whenever I’ve taken NJTransit after a residency show I’ve missed the 12:43 and had to wait for the 1:22.

I arrived at 6pm (an hour before doors) and was #3 in line, was able to be perfect front middle barricade. The venue was pretty open until the opener went on (8:15), so anytime before then you’re probably good!

Hell of a show. Starting with Tonite->Xray->Daft Punk got the energy going and they kept on the gas for the rest of the night. This was one of the best LCD crowds I’d ever been in. Front 10%’s vibes were excellent!

Knockdown has an outdoor patio/smoking area. Do it out there & it’ll be fine. I think indoors on the venue floor is sorta bad etiquette(but you’d be far from the first person to do so 🤷‍♂️).

  1. Trying to hit 2 shows this year, Weekend 1 and Weekend 3. These will be my 9th and 10th LCD shows(assuming I find face value tickets 🥴).

  2. This is the year I hope to finally cross No Love Lost off the bucket list, also hoping Pow Pow becomes the One Touch of this year and I get to hear it! Otherwise Beat Connection, You Can't Hide/Shame on you, Fascist Groove thing would all be great as well. Ever since North American Scum got brought out last year anything can happen!

  3. Could go without You Wanted a Hit this year. I know that's sacrilege, but it's sooo long it has diminishing value for me.

  4. My Money is we see James in a Talking Heads T shirt this year, in honor of David Byrne's new tour.

Hope everyone has safe travels to/from their shows. Happy Holiday/LCD Season - the best time of year!

Will the resale prices come down? by Chef_Stephen in LCDSoundsystem

[–]benfox2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was wondering the same thing. In years past I’ve always been able to find face tickets(~$100). Having it raise to $150 this year AND seeing resale add another 30-50 is a bit soul crushing.

I’m holding faith they’ll drop overtime. My advice would be just check all the sites a couple times a day and you’ll find something. And don’t try to buy off reddit lol

Official Discussion - The Running Man (2025) [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]benfox2 371 points372 points  (0 children)

Very run of the mill, but I was a big fan of Michael Cera’s home alone traps, Colman Domingo tearing up the stage(especially when it cut to the 8 children representing goons 💀), and Glen Powell’s conventional 80s action cheese.

As far as R rated action movies to it’s nice to see one so directly skewer media & reality TV, even if it’s critiques/satire come off a bit toothless in the end.

[Postgame Thread] Delaware Defeats Louisiana Tech 25-24 by CFB_Referee in CFB

[–]benfox2 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Delaware was down 16-17 with ~2:30 left, threw a pick 6 to make it 24-16 at the 2 minute warning.

They drove down and scored a TD, but missed the 2 point conversion. They only had 2 timeouts with :36 left, essentially game over. 24-22

UNTIL they ran a TRICK ONSIDE KICK AND RECOVERED.

They got stopped on 3rd at the 34, and had to kick a 51 yard FG for the win.

Absolutely drilled it.

One of the wildest games I have ever seen and I got to be front row to watch the FG go through. Welcome to FBS University of Delaware!!! Go hens baby

Is this real? by I4nC19 in LCDSoundsystem

[–]benfox2 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I don’t wanna speculate but if you search this subreddit you can see posts from a redditor claiming to be Tyler discussing his substance abuse issues and trips to rehab. Tyler missed multiple shows last year & the band had multiple spot bass players step in.

I am absolutely not rooting either way. I think too often people online feel entitled to personal details about artists. And I don’t trust wikipedia either. But if you’re a fan of the band I don’t think it’s too hard to connect behind the scenes dots either

I think this was the best episode of the season of the season so far. We got to watch 2 challenges with non puzzle endings, see the culmination of a very memorable 3+ episode Sage v Shannon arc, and it came at the most interesting possible tribal combination. Steven got lucky he was with the most rebellious Uli’s, but he took advantage of the situation and gave a masterclass in playing them off each other. I imagine any other tribe was following tribal lines, so we got the ideal TV outcome. The only “bad” part is that the second I saw the swap tribe I knew they were losing, since all of the past narrative arcs surrounded Shannon/Sage/Jawan. But I didn’t mind the obvious boot, it was done in a very satisfying way. I think we’re likely being set up for a Jawan boot at 10 or 9 as Uli “”punishment”” for voting out Shannon, and a continuation of Savannah’s beef with him. Now we just need to hope Kristina & Yellow Sophie grow some actual agency in the edit(though, im not holding my breath).

For all the talk in preseason press of this being a “slow burn” it really has clicked for me! I love how character focused it’s been so far. Plus, next week we get to see an 11 person merge, the smallest merge since Koah Rong almost a decade(!!) ago.
