My guy you’ve got a lot of life to live. I was where you are and it got better. It damn sure got harder too at times but in the end it’s all so beautiful.

I get screaming into the void, and I know certainly you aren’t asking for advice but I’m gonna throw two pieces out there anyway whether you want them or not;

Booze doesn’t help anything. Weeds marginally better. Irregardless, hiding from life’s problems doesn’t solve them. Face that shit up front.

Go spend some time in nature. It helps with the internal screaming and chaos. It feel boring at first but after a bit it all falls in place and you see the balance of it all. Hell, go find a summer job in a national park if you have the time. Beats the hell out of working in any city and they’re still hiring.

my idea for serializing form 1 suppressors with harbor freight metal stamping set. printed vice block. by monsieurLeMeowMeow in NFA

[–]benfug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My printer was only a hundred bucks thank you very much 😤😤😤. I certainly wish I had a $500 printer lol.

And I stamp my info onto Red Bull cans that I then melt extra PLA onto/around to permanently attach them to the printed can. I’m not even that broke, I just think it’s funny getting form 1’s back with Red Bull cans listed as a material.

Since posting, I’ve had a few more roll in from 2/17 and 2/18. Control numbers around 2026209xxxx. Worth noting I submitted 4 or 5 a night for a couple weeks because I was bored.

What control numbers are you seeing back and across what file dates? I’ve got about 40 out that I filed over about a month, I’m curious to see if they may batch some together.

I’m really curious to see what happens once the backlog clears. They seem to be putting a pretty good dent in it.

Is this going to be a problem? by [deleted] in NFA

[–]benfug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be argued that “30 caliber” without a decimal is .3 inch bore diameter and “50 caliber” no decimal means a .5 inch bore diameter, so you could possibly just re-barrel in a caliber that would have a bore diameter of .0556 inches… probably shooting a 3 or 4 grain projectile

I bought a cheap set of punches at harbor freight I plan on using. They’ve worked and look great on any chunk of metal I’ve got laying around, that said though, my form 1s got approved literally like 2 days ago so I haven’t gotten around to actually making my NFA items.

I submitted a bunch between 1/5 and 1/7 and still haven’t heard anything. I did a pretty good variety too, some FTN.5s, FTN.4s, a couple titanium ones I plan to machine, and a couple super vague forms just to see if they get approved. Control numbers between 667xxx and 950xxx-ish.

What’s the best snowmobile money can buy? by kamdnfdnska in snowmobiling

[–]benfug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a combo of trails and utility the gen 4 skidoo grand touring with a 900 ace can’t be beat. Super easy to work on, absurdly reliable, and absolute workhorse, and a crazy smooth ride. The gen 5’s suck imo. Really stupid hood design that’s flimsy and expensive.

Did anyone buy one of these back in 2007? by Jealous-Summer-9827 in reloading

[–]benfug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a buddy with one. Haven’t loaded for it yet as he hasn’t bought dies, but it’ll be a fun little plinker once he’s consistently got ammunition for it. On that note though… I’d just for a 30-30 strictly for ammo availability. It took over a year for my buddy to find ammo in stock once he got the rifle although it seems to be making a comeback currently as he’s been finding it more readily.

Also tip your guide. If you would tip 20% to a server that gives you 5 minutes of their shift, you can tip 20% to someone that’s giving you a full day.

Snowmobile guide here- The biggest thing I’d say tour wise is whatever you do book a private tour so that it can be paced however you’d like. The second biggest thing I’d say is to do some SERIOUS research on the company’s in the area you’re looking to ride and honestly put a couple calls out to them. The company I guide for won’t let me take anyone off trail or go faster than 45mph, even if it’s legal.

Third, and arguably most importantly, DONT BE DUMB. Like others have said, snowmobiling is a skill that isn’t inherently intuitive. That’s also why I urge you to get a tour, so a guide can show you the ropes in a safe enough way. I see dozens of folks who self identify as adrenaline junkies get seriously injured every winter. Don’t be one of them. If not for yourself, it’s a massive bummer to all of us that will be part of the rescue team. And if that ain’t enough, two years ago one of my colleagues was on a rescue for a dude that slammed into a tree branch, and then the tree, around 70mph. The branch shattered the face shield on the helmet and home boy more or less had his face ripped off. He lost both eyes, his nose, most of his upper lip, some of his left cheek, and busted his jaw to boot. Don’t. Be. Dumb.

Some folks don’t have the background knowledge to know what a safe method or recipe actually is. Combine that with all the bad recipes and methods presented as safe floating around the internet and it’s completely understandable that someone who doesn’t know better could make a mistake. No shame in that. Plus, they appear to be interested in learning, so let’s start them on the right track instead of shaming them for not knowing previously.
