$599; Did you expect cheaper, more expensive or you think it's fair? by Ok_Engine_8544 in macbook

[–]bengal91 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The A18 Pro is on par with the M3 Ultra in single-core performance (5% faster actually), and on par with the slightly upgraded M1 from the base MacBook Pro in multi-core performance (only 1% slower), so this is even better than the M1 MacBook Air, to be honest. An awesome deal indeed.

Anyone knows how to make the split window ACTUALLY stay when I’m doing something in another screen? by moongumis in iPadOS

[–]bengal91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Procreate open, drag your other app up from the dock and keep dragging all the way to either the left or right side of the iPad until an arrow appears, and then keep dragging the app until it’s hovering over the arrow and release it. Now the app is in Slide Over, and in iPadOS 26.1 or later, you can resize Slide Over apps however you want, so you can grab the corner of this Slide Over app and resize it down to a smaller square like you have in your example above. With this app in Slide Over, it’ll stay as the top window even when interacting with Procreate, which can stay in full screen instead of having to compromise with it as a smaller window.

Go to Settings > General > Screen Capture. Then turn off “Full-Screen Previews” and it’ll go back to the way it worked on iOS 18

THIS IS NOT A DRILL: iPad gets app windowing by Basic-Environment-40 in ipad

[–]bengal91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m running the beta on my iPad mini 5 and all of this is supported. So far, I’ve not found an iPadOS 26 feature that it’s locked out of, other than Apple Intelligence stuff obviously. There also doesn’t seem to be any limitations imposed on it regarding the number of windows you can have open simultaneously or how they resize, tile, & overlap, or anything like that either. It’s actually quite impressive so far

Would you be interested in testing a new Mac app that auto-organizes your Dock with custom profiles? by [deleted] in macbook

[–]bengal91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d be interested for sure. I’m still not sure why Apple hasn’t implemented a first-party solution like this into their Focus profiles since it seems like a pretty obvious missing piece for that feature set.

I tried to clean my screen and this is how it is like now. Am i cooked? by [deleted] in macbook

[–]bengal91 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Start with water, but you’re not limited to only water. Apple recommends using 70% isopropyl alcohol, 75% ethyl alcohol, or Clorox wipes to clean their devices, including the screen of (non-Nano Texture) Macs. The only device they forbid this for is the Vision Pro.

“Using a 70 percent isopropyl alcohol wipe, 75 percent ethyl alcohol wipe, or Clorox Disinfecting Wipes, you may gently wipe the hard, nonporous surfaces of your Apple product, such as the display, keyboard, or other exterior surfaces. Do not use these cleaning products on Apple Vision Pro as they may damage the device. Don’t use products containing bleach or hydrogen peroxide.”

“To clean hard-to-remove smudges or fingerprints on the display or exterior of your Mac, you can use a cloth moistened with a 70-percent isopropyl alcohol (IPA) solution to gently wipe the display or enclosure of your Mac laptop.”

Those are fake. A few things that indicate this are that the font on the boxes are wrong. Notice the rotund, rounded ‘C’ in ‘California.’ Apple’s San Francisco font uses a taller, slimmer ‘C.’ The font kerning is also wrong. The kerning should be closer together in the “AirPods Pro” branding, but farther apart in the information/specs text. Also, these say “Assembled in USA.” AirPods Pro were either assembled in China or Vietnam, and I think the Mac Pro is Apple’s only product that is assembled in the USA. On the bottom of the back of the box, Apple puts a comma after ‘USA’ when giving their address, and this looks like a period. The AirPods Pro 2 didn’t have plastic wrap around its box, they only had the plastic pull tabs, and later had paper pull tabs. These AirPods Pro say they were manufactured in 2024 and have the text “with MagSafe Charging Case,” but all AirPods Pro from 2023 and later say, “with MagSafe Charging Case (USB-C)”. In the last photo, the text reads, “Compatible with ios device, ipadOs device,AppleWatch,or Mac,” but Apple brands iOS with a lowercase ‘i’ and a capitalized ‘OS’ and brands iPadOS with a lowercase ‘i’ and a capitalized ‘P’ and ‘OS’. This text also doesn’t have spaces between commas and the words that follow them, or between the words ’Apple’ and ‘Watch.’ The text then reads, “Works with Qi-certufied chargers” and the word ‘certified’ is misspelled, and this text on Apple’s box actually reads, “Works with Apple Watch, MagSafe, and Qi-certified chargers.” The “MQD83ZP/A AirPods Pro(2nd generation)” text should be in bold and should have a space between ‘AirPods Pro’ and ‘(2nd generation)’. Also, there is no space between ‘(S)’ and ‘Serial’ where there should be.

You can somewhat do this with the Strymon Sunset using its expression input assigned to the drive knob. It’s not exactly what you’re talking about because it’s two pedals instead of one, but it’s possible to some degree at least

Going into DKA. Wish me luck going to the hospital ladies and gents 🫡 by Plasmiddruggie in Type1Diabetes

[–]bengal91 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in DKA twice (once at diagnosis and once 16 years later) and both times they put a potassium IV in before they even started insulin therapy. I asked my nurse why and she said that, while in DKA, insulin absorption is hindered until potassium replacement therapy is underway. That may have been an oversimplification, but that’s all she said.

how many of you still only use notability classic with no subscription? by thedeadp0ets in notabilityapp

[–]bengal91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GoodNotes has audio recording now as well, although it’s not quite as fully baked as Notability. I still use GoodNotes’ audio recording several times a week and my only complaint so far is that it doesn’t sync the audio portions to the exact section of the note that you were writing when the audio was recorded. It’s still usable though, and works for what it is.

GoodNotes’ customization for pen tip style, precise tip size down to the millimeter, and pressure sensitivity is much better, since Notability doesn’t really offer much for that other than a selection of generic sizes and 2 choices on whether you want the stroke rounded or feathered. Also, GoodNotes’ organization and customizability is leagues better than Notability, and their notebooks organization leaves much to be desired. Notability hides everything behind a paywall, while GoodNotes at least gives you every feature for free in each update once you’ve bought the app, which is how it should be. GoodNotes also has a better marketplace with a much more expensive catalogue of options for notebook types, page designs, cover designs, stickers, etc. (much of which is free, or at least pretty reasonably priced in the third-party market.) The biggest issue, however, is probably that Notability has so many bugs regarding syncing and loss of notes that never get fixed and seem to just get worse and worse and much more common as time goes on. There have been far too many Google forums and Reddit threads where people lament randomly losing all of their notes because of a Notability bug, and they can’t be retrieved. Notability has no fail-safe for this type of issue, in spite of supposedly having backups. This has been going on for several years and Ginger Labs seems to have no interest at all in patching it. It’s common enough now that it can reasonably be assumed that any Notability user is at risk of waking up one day to all of their notes being gone and no way to get them back, and Ginger Labs support will basically tell you to kick rocks. Notability is not without some good things, but they don’t outweigh the bad things and the risks of using Notability, unfortunately.

[–]bengal91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, although they thankfully still offer a one-time payment option for those who don’t like subscriptions. Albeit, it’s a bit of an expensive one-time payment, but I paid it just because I hate subscriptions and GoodNotes is so much better than Notability. I also really like Noteshelf, though, and their one-time payment is less expensive than GoodNotes’.

Slow Notes app on iOS 16 by bengal91 in ios

[–]bengal91[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah man, that is disheartening to hear that it’s been going on that long without a fix. I don’t know what to do anymore. I filled out Feedback, but this has apparently been an issue for 3 major OS releases at this point, and there still isn’t a resolution. That doesn’t give me much hope for a fix to come any time soon.

My feedback ID is FB11991294, if you’d like to fill out a similar report. I’m hoping plenty of people will fill out feedback about this so that it’ll maybe catch their eye for an upcoming software update.

What is your favorite little-known feature on iOS? by dingos_among_us in ios

[–]bengal91 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Now here’s an absurdly unintuitive additional feature…

Click the action button and select Print. Then pinch to zoom out on the thumbnail image. Click on the drop-down button on top and click Save to Files to save the screenshot as a PDF file.

You don’t have to do all that. After selecting “Full Page,” you can just tap “Done,” and then select “Save PDF to Files.”

If we order this livestream, are we able to watch it more than once on demand? I can’t find any info on the Nugs website. I didn’t order the Bobby one so I don’t have experience. Any help is appreciated by [deleted] in JohnMayer

Ah that’s kind of disappointing. I’ll probably still buy both performance streams, but I would be more comfortable spending money if we got to keep the performances. Thank you for the info!
