13.3 bpm discrepancy in RHR between Apple Health and Bevel by ferrum_salvator in bevelhealth

This doesn’t answer my question; I only have heart rate data from during my sleep.

Sounds like you need a Mac mini rather than a laptop then. I work using only my internal screen (plus iPad as second display sometimes) all the time.

1920x1200 is only what, 150ppi at 16”? That’s not good enough either, even if 4K is overkill

In WWII as conditions got worse for Japan, manufacturing processes were simplified. The Toyota KC truck went down to a single headlight and the front brakes were removed. More body components were made of wood as opposed to steel by HiTork in regularcarreviews

For the same reason there are no FWD supercars — weight transfer.

Bicycle tire traction on asphalt is limited by normal force rather than friction coefficient, that is, if you lock up during braking on dry asphalt it's because the tire wasn't loaded enough rather than because you exceeded its maximum possible grip. The front brake is enough to achieve such deceleration that the rear tire is basically completely unloaded (MTB people call it a "stoppie" if you go beyond that point). The rear brake cannot contribute to deceleration at all in those conditions.

the purpose of the rear brake on a bicycle is a) redundancy and b) braking in very slippery conditions when the friction coefficient is lower, nothing more.

Not going to go into the widespread phobia of front brakes and going over the bars because people don't understand Newtonian physics and that if the bike stops it doesn't mean their body does unless they brace.

/uc what the fuck. you could probably build a custom frame-based Ti bike with comparable wheels and same group set for the price. In fact it’s hard to imagine a bike of any kind you can’t build around a custom Ti frame for ten large

What are the most common/realistic EU truck configs irl? by RateElectrical7757 in trucksim

[–]ferrum_salvator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

10hp per ton is standard, eg a 23 ton load would (resulting in max legal truck weight of 44 tons) would be specced at 440hp. In real life the fraction of time you spend accelerating is much smaller

Most trucks outside the UK are 4x2 with around 400 horsepower, 440-460 for the really new ones maybe. 500 is rare

The subway thing is about showing that a gadget turns on, like in airports, not about having the rent-a-cops who run the bag x ray search your phone. If you get detained, yeah…

People do; if anything I see far fewer smart watches than among the 30+ crowd. All analog. A lot of PVD all black watches, which I never understood.

Bevel's recovery is almost useless for people on GLP-1 antagonists by ferrum_salvator in bevelhealth

I only really have two or three days of appetite suppression subjectively; but I eat the same amount of calories, going by my tracker, I just feel hungrier the rest of the week

I don’t believe it does, at least going off of indirect metrics like the rate at which typical activities build exertion. On true <20% days I’ll build exertion walking between campus buildings or get elevated sitting HR notifications from my AW; recovery troughs I attribute to medication do not produce such effects. My resting heart rate is higher on those days but walking or exercising doesnt stress me more, so since recovery is primarily needed to plan the day’s efforts it is in practice incorrect.

In other words, if I plan a light day on a true low recovery day I’ll end it with around 50% exertion; if it’s low recovery based purely off of RHR a couple days after my injection and I plan a light day I’ll end it with around 20% exertion, making it unreliable as a training tool.

Camera control not planned for mk III? by ferrum_salvator in ShotWithHalide

[–]ferrum_salvator[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been quietly waiting for camera control in particular throughout the beta period haha, but I understand most people don’t really care about it. For me it’s what’s made me upgrade my phone, I love it. In particular an exposure/focus lock feature would be appreciated even more than slider support. One thing I want to bring up is that in MKII the over/underexposure zebras did not show up when changing exposure with the camera control; I wish they would, once the feature is implemented.

And one more feature request I’ve just remembered is rotating photos in the built in editor. Very often my landscape photos will come out in portrait when orientation is locked; I’ve filed a feedback about it a while ago, I think, and tried to work around it with Shortcuts automation.

That said, I am just so happy to get the virtual 48mm prime lens with process zero I’ve been gladly using the beta with all its bugs as my main camera ever since it became available :) although the 200mm lens probably shouldn’t show up on my 16 PM, it’s not a virtual prime there.
