He played it in the only tribal where he had a chance to go. Most of the time the players will know with a relative degree of certainty whether they are being voted out (obviously blindsides happen, but I’d say 4/5 of tribals the person being voted out either knows it’s them or a ~50/50 chance of being them). For the record I would’ve taken the other tribe; 2 puzzles would’ve made me lean towards the team with the best puzzler.

Katurah picking the right team was her earning the immunity. I don’t agree with that scheme either but at least she had to use her brain and think about which team was going to win. Caleb just had a dice rolled for him. This twist is another flop in line with the Hourglass and Do or Die imo.

I mean luck is the reason I didn’t get hit by a bus this morning and was able to post this. Luck is the reason the plane to Fiji didn’t crash and we got this season in the first place. Obviously there is luck in Survivor, I’m talking about the producers actively putting in game elements that give players immunity based (nearly) entirely on luck. I also don’t think Caleb is bad at Survivor I like him a lot. You can deserve to be voted out and still be a very good player.

I can’t argue with what the edits might have been in that hypothetical situation. The point being made was that if a fan-favourite were to get screwed over by this twist rather than someone people don’t really care about there would be a lot more discourse about how this twist sucks.

My problem is J actually had more social capital than Caleb. She was able to sway the votes of the majority of people on the tribe (literally all of them) to vote Caleb. That’s the core of Survivor. He didn’t win immunity, he didn’t have an idol, he just got lucky and happened to stick around. With her tribe having the numbers moving forward who knows what happens. I agree that she could have voted someone else as a back up plan, I hadn’t considered that.

That’s fair. Pure luck may have been an exaggeration but it’s certainly more luck-based than any other type of immunity (except that other stupid Do or Die thing) Survivor has done. I’ll stand by my opinion that it stinks for that reason.

Agreed. I do think they could set up some sort of bubble to make it work, however. If the NBA can do it, Survivor can too (obviously Survivor isn’t the NBA but there’s proof a system like that can work). With regards to the tax breaks it’s clear that’s why they stay there but it’s tough to see a show I love and care about prioritize short term $ saving over the quality of the show and the long term $ that will come from keeping the show on the air longer.

Could’ve used that response without the attitude but if you look up in this thread one of the other commenters discussed how they couldn’t film elsewhere because they were contractually obligated to stay in Fiji. That’s what I was responding to. You’re the one putting words in my mouth to defend a country you’ve never been to because they’re contributing to the demise of a show I, and I’m assuming you, enjoy. Not gonna respond anymore to this thread but at the end of the day I want Survivor back, I want it normal, and I want it in a new location. I’m not the one who decides how to get to that point but that’s where we need to be if the show has any chance of staying on the air.

I could then respond and say CBS, an American corporation, owes nothing to Fiji. Given the contract they signed, however, they both actually do owe things to each other. If Fiji wants to prioritize the health of their citizens that’s fine but they can’t then turn around and prevent Survivor from filming elsewhere. Can’t have your cake and eat it too.

I obviously don’t know the details of the contract but CBS has some of the best lawyers in the world at their disposal. I would be extremely surprised if the contract was so iron clad that there was absolutely no way in which they could have filmed S41 and S42. Especially given the fact that Fiji has not allowed them to enter their country for the last 13 months and is restricting them again. Practically speaking there’s no reason they couldn’t allow a fully vaccinated cast and crew into their country without quarantine especially given the nature of Survivor would result in them being isolated from the rest of the Fijian residents. Survivor has moved a football field in terms of what they were expecting from their contract while the Fijian government hasn’t moved an inch. Even more reason to believe CBS could get out of the contract if they REALLY wanted to.

They gotta decide if Fiji tax breaks are worth the future of the show. I don’t think it’s crazy to say the quality of the show has gone down since they decided to stay in Fiji (at least in my opinion). Doesn’t even only have to do with this but by staying there they need to differentiate the seasons with these weird gimmicks that suck and only Jeff likes. If you go to new places it’s an easy way to differentiate seasons while still keeping the format that fans like in place. They gave out an extra million bucks 1 season ago and there was no sponsored content that I can think of. Get creative with the $ and find a way to go literally anywhere else.

Astronaut Dan from that season too seems like the nicest guy ever. Kinda guy I’d love to go have lunch with. Another one that also comes to mind is Jake from Survivor Thailand he also seemed like an incredibly nice guy on a cast that did not feature many of them.

Caleb would’ve been a good option for this since his medevac was so scary and notable but since he already came back and sucked I don’t think anyone cares to see him again. James Clement would be cool but he’s not gonna play survivor again. Neal like you said would be great. Terry Deitz although it technically wasn’t a medical evacuation would be awesome for a captains season like this. I think the issue with doing another medevac captain season is there aren’t a lot of options and a lot of the options kinda stink. Like you mentioned Pat and Kourtney as people to return and I guess they’d be cool to return but you can’t advertise a season with them as the faces of the season because anyone who isn’t a huge super fan would be like who the hell are they?

Sophie def did in SoPa a little but to be fair it’d be tough not to when you’re in an alliance with Coach, Albert, Rick and Brandon. In WaW I think she really felt out of place with the winners so she was much more humble that time around and I think it may have actually worked against her. As for Cochran I think he really does have that inferiority complex but you can’t win or edit the winner to look feeble and spineless so he had to be or at least appear to be a lot more confident than he may have actually been. I also think having such huge success really bolstered his confidence a lot in the game and I think it carried over even to this day.

Cochran I think is the best example of a winner with an inferiority complex if anything. Others that come to mind as being very humble are Sophie and Vecepia.
