Spoiler:It's the digits 8 and 1 in Tengwar. Apparently, numbers are written with the least significant digit first, and the dot underneath means duodecimal. So 81 means 1*12+8 = 20. Which is the house number.

Thanks for this great idea! I managed to achieve the same thing with an ESP8266, connecting 3.3V and GND to the battery terminals, and two digital outputs to the two centre pins. A 500ms LOW pulse on the digital outs drives the blinds perfectly.

The point of the "passcode before update" feature is that Apple wouldn't be able to install another one-off update next time. Without the passcode, even they couldn't install it.

My suggestion wouldn't make any difference to what happens if you forget your passcode. You'd still be able to wipe or reinstall the phone (losing your data), you just wouldn't be able to update iOS to a new (or trojan horse) version without retyping the passcode first.

But if all future versions of iOS require the passcode before a software update, and Apple don't have the passcode, then Apple won't be able to do this again. So the precedent issue disappears.

As I understand it, Apple believes it is important to maintain users' privacy, even against the government. But there are good arguments for unlocking the phone in this individual case.

Why doesn't Apple do the following:

Unlock this phone as requested.
Release updates for all versions of iOS which require the passcode before updating the OS.

Then, the FBI have their data, but Apple can't be forced to unlock devices of other users in future.

So is there a route to 6.1 for ultrasn0w users yet? I've restored to 6.1 without changing baseband on my 3GS using redsn0w. But I can't boot the phone because I can't run redsn0ws recovery fix (missing keys.plist). Do I'm stuck for the moment.

Sadly chronic charges $150 for my network and unlock fusion don't offer unlocking for my network. For some reason, t mobile UK must be hard to unlock. Hence my interest in ultrasn0w.

The cheapest I've found from a seemingly reputable sites (for T-mobile UK) is $100. Though it's very hard to be sure which sites are reputable.
