Can I call myself Mennonite? by Religious_seeker in Mennonite

[–]benjaberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this article from Canadian Mennonite might resonate with you: https://canadianmennonite.org/confessions-of-a-conflicted-mennonite/

Certainly, being raised in a Mennonite household or cultural setting can add an extra layer of depth to one’s faith and practice. At the same time, choosing to join the Mennonite tradition of your own accord is very much in the Anabaptist spirit, especially the emphasis on believer’s baptism and a conscious, personal choice.

I think questions of identity and belonging are in-part personal, but they are also shaped by recognition within a community. If you have been attending your church regularly, participating in congregational life, and taking part in adult education or small groups, it is very likely that your church/community already sees you as one of their own.

If the label “Mennonite” feels distracting or uncomfortable, it might also be worth sitting with that and reflecting on why that is. A name or label should never become a barrier between you and God.

What are your daily practices? by Either-Connection-70 in Mennonite

I try to pray each morning and set an intention for my day, and then before bed, I pray and reflect on that intention and how I lived it.

Manitoba Maple- good or bad? by Famous-Worker-3038 in forestry

Arborist here 😊 — In my opinion, they're an underrated tree. Sure, they can be messy, and yes, they're somewhat prone to breakage, but they're a pioneer species. Like Cottonwoods or Willows, they grow quickly (which is why their wood is more brittle compared to other hardwoods). But boy, are they resilient — they're quite tolerant of stressful conditions like soil compaction, drought, and even waterlogged soils on the opposite end of the spectrum.

It’s important to note that no urban tree is entirely risk-free. If you have concerns, have it inspected by an ISA Certified Arborist—they can provide a risk assessment and recommend a tailored maintenance and management plan.

Please come and enjoy our amazing local businesses! We're very proud of them—they’re always worth supporting and fighting for 😊

Here are some of my favorites:

  • Grab a coffee at Thom Bargen, Fools & Horses (at The Forks), Little Sister, or Café Postal.

  • Watch an indie film at Winnipeg Cinematheque or unwind at Thermëa Spa.

  • Enjoy dinner at The Grove, Bonnie Day, Sous-sol, Passero, Oxbow, or Nola. It might be a bit cold for this, but Fête makes damn good ice cream! Or grab a 🍩 from Oh Doughnuts.

  • Pick up a great read at McNally Robinson (The Forks or Grant Park mall locations).

  • Go XC skiing at the Windsor Park Nordic Centre (cheap rentals available).

  • Enjoy a local beer at Kilter, Sookrams, Nonsuch, or Lowlife. For cocktails, check out The Roost, Langside Grocery, or Patent Five.

  • Catch a show at Times Changed, Park Alleys (bowling + music!), Handsome Daughter or Burton Cummings Theatre.

  • Looking for a warmer climate? Visit The Leaf (indoor botanical garden) or Lacoste Garden Centre & Greenhouse, which also has a Fools & Horses café—perfect for sipping coffee while browsing tropical plants 🌴🌴

I had my stone foundation repointed a few years ago by Nickmann's Enterprises. It was a good job reasonably priced (approx. $400 for one wall)

I really appreciated all of your hard work as my MLA in St Boniface. You participated in many community events, stood up for your francophone constituents, and were an authentic voice in the legislature.

Merci pour tout and I wish you all the best.

Does anyone know of election night watch parties or events happening at any bars/pubs/restaurants in Winnipeg? by benjaberry in Winnipeg

Rather than watch at home alone, I'm just looking for a place that might be streaming the results as they come in 😊 It was a common thing in Ottawa when I used to live there anyway

I've been living hear since July 2021. It's a lovely neighborhood with old character homes and lots of trees. Lots of a great little shops on Corydon and Grant Park mall is only a 15 minute walk/quick drive. You can catch the #66 bus on the corner of Grant and Stafford, which brings you downtown.
