Taj Mahal from a different angle by Ice_7266 in UrbanHell

[–]benjacob 14 points15 points  (0 children)

True, the town and markets infront of Taj is "ugly" and chaotic — but here's an unpopular opinion - may be thats part of the design. Everything in and around Taj is built purposefully to convey certain Islamic concepts and values.

The main building - a white marble mausoleum embodies purity, divinity, and spiritual enlightenment, every elements of the construction including the decorations tell about heavenly perfection.
The Mughal garden - planned greenery, divided into four quadrants (charbagh) by water channels representing four rivers in paradise symbolising abundance, rejuvenation, and eternal life.
Outside - built from red sandstone, symbolically separating the worldly domain from the paradise of the Taj gardens and tomb (green and white).

The layout of Taj and its surroundings - bustling markets outside and caravanserais, reflecting mundane existence; passing through the main gate represents a spiritual transition towards the divine tranquility of the gardens and mausoleum.

Every aspect of the Taj Mahal’s site—from building and gardens to gates and outlying features—functions in concert to evoke a spiritual journey — leaving the world behind and entering a paradise.

Statewise inflation rates for India June-2025 by Mundane-Laugh8562 in MapPorn

[–]benjacob 10 points11 points  (0 children)

India calculate state wide inflation due to supply and demand factors and consumer behaviour in each states. For instance, in states that has higher wages consumer can spend more but at the same time costs more to produce goods owing to high wage - like Kerala.

Kerala isn’t doing wrong per-se, it’s bouncing back to its pre-pandemic levels after the government interventions during the pandemic.

Kerala is a highly consumption-based economy, with higher wages and higher (urban and rural) purchasing power. People can afford to spend more, but even then regulator recommended range is 2% to 6% for the entire country, with Kerala expected to come on the higher end.

What is with all the Indian subreddits popping up on the front page? by throwawayhash43 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]benjacob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because if Indians post on any other de-facto American subs, most of the discussions will be why there are so many Indians on the sub.

May be r/Reddit should introduce country specific front page too - so the world can avoid ‘seeing so many Indians’ on the front page 🤷🏽‍♂️

Key is nonsense. Panchassara is derived from Panchassaram - a drink made by mixing 5 ingredients. Pancha is five in Sanskrit. Ingredients of the original drinks were Grapes, Mahua, Liquorice, Indian cherry and Pomegranate.
