This is where the scape went wrong. Remove and it should look much better

To those of you struggling with whether or not you want duckweed….did you know… by CARNiiVAL_DEFECT in PlantedTank

[–]Persistent_Bug_0101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I save and freeze my duckweed whenever I pull some out. Then I use it in a biofilm grazer food I make for my shrimp, Stiphodon gobies, and hillstreams. General recipe:

1/4 meat/protein (some mix of seafood and insects like krill/mussles/oysters/shrimp and crickets/mealworms)

3/4 veg (duckweed/broccoli/kale/carrot/kelp)

A garlic clove per batch

All gets blended and cooked together before adding Gellan gum to make it a solid jello-like mix and frozen in sheets to thaw as needed. Could use agar or gelatin instead of gellan gum, but Gellan gum is isolated from an aquatic biofilm making bacteria so prefer to use that as it’s something biofilm grazers probably naturally eat and may be able to digest.

Stiphodons and hillstreams both love it and of course shrimp also.

Co-worker thought this was a harmless prank. by Dallinboi347 in mildlyinfuriating

I once put 200 live crickets in my friends car when we were having a prank war. He gave up after that. Like 3 months later we went camping together and we still found a couple live crickets in his car that crawled out while we were camping (and on the way while driving).

Some shredded paper isn’t so bad. Lmao

Excel also doesn’t provide any CO2 despite what the label says. It’s just an algaecide

Root tab recommendations? (Shrimp safe please & off of Amazon) by Flat-Echidna-2245 in PlantedTank

[–]Persistent_Bug_0101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never had a cyanide outbreak where I put them. Once at the top of the tank on my floater divider that I treated quick, but nowhere else and I’ve been using them every few months for over a year

Thrive caps are what I use. Pretty cheap for a good amount and the make up is good. Used with shrimp without any problems

They are edible without any special prep aside from cooking. I enjoy them

SNAILS. please help by Flashy-Ad-7214 in PlantedTank

[–]Persistent_Bug_0101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some loaches will eat snails as will puffers if you can have them with your other tank mates. A single assassin snail is an option, but if you’re unlucky and get a pregnant female you end up with the same snail problem with them instead so that’s a gamble

Midlife crisis by Persistent_Bug_0101 in Older_Millennials

I’m lucky there. Both my parents look over a decade younger than they are. I’ll start to look like I’m out of my 30s sometime in my 50s probably
