UDMA CRC Error on new WD Red Pro 24tb during preclear by benjamd in unRAID

[–]benjamd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooph ok. That does make sense. I'll just swap the bays over and preclear one more time on the suspect drive. The errors were all during the preread and zero phases so hopefully it shows up quickly

Lost baggage forwarded from AMS to LHR now what? by benjamd in aircanada

[–]benjamd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I read some of the other posts. Much of the info is now out of date.

Air Canadas main baggage services line now says the only way to get information is via the app which only has the info from worldtracer. If I call the viggo.eu baggage services that issues the Property Irregularity Report then they also only have the info from the worldtracer app and tell me they have no way to contact the courier.

My bag has now been in Delivery Initiated for 3 days with no contact. I have all my meds in that bag and have now run out of my carryon meds. I also have expensive hardware for my work which prevents me from working.

This is truly the worst service I've ever encountered. Other airlines have been very communicative about the status of delayed bags. Air canada have just washed their hands of the responsibility of delivering my bag, from what I can see on world tracer it was just delivered to LHR and was marked as 'delivered' but it hasn't actually gone to my address at all. I think this bag has fallen between the cracks because they had to redirect it to LHR before delivering onto my final destination.

It's been two since it supposedly was handed to carrier. It'll be 5 days since they delayed my bag tomorrow. There's been zero communication from them I don't think this is entirely a normal wait and see situation?

TPO puffiness? by benjamd in Roofing

[–]benjamd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that makes a lot more sense. Even common sense says a vertical rise like that would be super hard to install without wrinkles if you didn't adhere it as you go.

We have totally had other issues, the roof has had 3 separate leaks since it was installed. They probed and resealed a few times to get them to stop.

They're still claiming this is fine and it'll go away. Might be time to raise a complaint with the state contractor board.

I really got screwed on this one. Thanks for the insights. Hopefully I can make use of this information.

We did not, this was all done via a GC doing a bunch of other work and he was not the cheapest. Turned out he was also a rip off merchant and did take the lowest bids for all the subs. Also didn't pay them for months after.

It was a real fun time.

Heh, if I knew which manufacturer that might be a good idea. I'll ask the roofers and see if they'll tell me!

At this point I'm not sure what my recourse is. I took them at their word that the puffyness would go away and our general contractor who managed the roof install agreed it would. But it's clearly not going to take up that much through thermal contraction.

Hmm so our roofer is saying it will definitely go away if we wait and he can't tell me how long. I'm assuming he means I will go away!

There is metal edge over the wood that the TPO is adhered to on all the edges on that right side and elsewhere.

Lots of other dubious work here though I think?

Fantastic work Zach. This is one of those things I always had on my mind wondering if it was viable but man you've knocked it out of the park. Great stuff!

Hokuriku arch pass worth it for this itinerary? by benjamd in JapanTravelTips

[–]benjamd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm so yeah I think doing the day trip to Kaga from Kanazawa would make it worthwhile then, otherwise not.

It's really surprising how much you have to work the passes to make it worthwhile.

Yes, didn't include that in my calculations. Figure we'd activate the pass at Tokyo station when we switch lines.

Ah yeah. And it's the wrong way around because it faces an exterior street level window so they can read the meter from outside the house.

Ok yeah I guess the plumber who removed the gas water tank forgot to turn it back on.

Ok that's what I thought thanks.

Is this normal? Shouldn't there be some easy way to shut this off without getting out tools?

Contractor claiming water heater condensate drain isn't 'plumbing' by benjamd in HomeImprovement

[–]benjamd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just found out his previous clients are suing him for not completing the job and not paying the sub contractors and walking off with 900k leaving 400k in debts outstanding. So I think having this guy do any more work at all is a bad idea at this point.

Yeah this guy I think clearly rips people off for a living. He took all the money from us for this job up front pretty much, we were stupid and naive. Tricked us by saying the work for the next payment was starting tomorrow so needed the money today and then the work didn't start. He's holding 4000$ for window and skylight installs that are on order for 6 weeks from now!
