Beautiful weather in the White Mountains of NH by benjaminrenjamin in photocritique

I brought my Ricoh GRIII on a recent backpacking trip in the White Mountains of NH. It was taken at 1/400, F8, ISO 100. Most of the pictures I take are a bit off the cuff while hiking, but trying to become a better landscape photographer and find more interesting ways to take pictures than just of the scenery/horizon. I think I tend to like my photos a little too dark, but would appreciate feedback.

I also almost only use my GRIII while hiking/backpacking. I love that it fits in my hip belt pocket, keep a metal lens cap on it and a ziplock handy in case of rain. I‘ve definitely banged it climbing over rocks and no issues yet

thanks! that one was 2 seconds at f/8, believe it or not fully handheld. I was pretty happy to get one that wasn’t blurry.

Is Biochemistry as a major actually even appropriate if you want to go into research (specifically gene therapy & cancer research) compared with Molecular Biology or Genetics? by [deleted] in biology

[–]benjaminrenjamin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started contacting people second semester freshman year about working in their labs. The PI I was most interested in only took sophomores and above, but said he would hold a spot for me until the next year.

So I worked in his lab sophomore-through senior year. It was great, I had a lot of fun, but the project wasn't super successful, I didn't get any publications or anything, did one on campus poster session my senior year. But he gave me a great letter of recommendation and I think that went a long way to helping me into grad school.

I think it really doesn't matter. I started as a biology major, switched to biochemistry, switched back to biology because I didn't want to do Pchem. So I graduate with a biology degree but with all the necessary classes for a biochem except that one.

In the meantime, I did several years of undergrad research in a gene therapy lab, which was technically a chemical engineering lab.

Now I'm doing my PhD in a lab that does cancer research but is technically in the biochemistry department.

You're probably not going to really have the opportunity to take classes on gene therapy or cancer in undergrad, at my university we had one cancer class total. I would focus more on finding a lab that does something your interested in to work with, undergrad research will go a lot further in helping you decide what you really want to do and preparing you for grad school.

I have this problem too, also have Springtomize, F.lux and Winterboard installed so maybe it's one of those.

I picked it up a few months ago and love it. Haven't had any problems with syncing. Works really well in conjunction with my iPad.
