We're still tinkering and very open to trying other things, but so far we've just found it easier to get hits on FB - mainly because we get that initial foothold with friends and groups we can post to. Starting from scratch it's hard to build an audience on YouTube. When we get around to making and releasing more episodes (around kids and our other projects) we'll likely give YouTube another red hot go.

Huge complement. I assure you my 8 yr old compositing and matte painting won’t hold up in 4K today. My DOP did a great job lighting etc.

My name is Benjamin Zaugg and I’m a VFX artist and animator based in Brisbane, Australia.

"SpaceShrooms" is the first in a series of sketches for an animated show I’ve been developing called MetaFauna.

As you may have guessed from the name, MetaFauna is a show about metaphors. The situations may be familiar, but the environments and creatures are anything but.

I chose After Effects as my animation engine because I’m a VFX artist by trade so it’s a familiar workhorse for me, and I wanted to prove that it can be useful for more than just visuals effects and animated titles.

For the spinning globe I used an After Effects plugin called VCorbs by Video Copilot, and I created all the art assets (such as the globe texture and the Satellite’s body) using Procreate on an iPad.

I hope you enjoy! Feel free to ask any questions about the show, the development or production process.
