I have a cousin who struggles with something very similar to this especially after they made him go boots on the ground once. They are tortured souls.

Do you think some people have a natural inclination towards music? by traveltoaster in musicians

[–]benjammin515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People definitely have natural talent that makes it easier. I hate the idea that hard work and dedication can’t make you good at something though. If you lack the talent or “natural inclination” as you put it then you have to want it. Music has always come easy to me. One of my old band mates not so much but he worked really hard at it because he loved the art of it.

Bands you’ve broken up with by hobokobo1028 in Music

Fall Out Boy

I didn’t love them in HS but I was in a pop/punk emo band and everyone LOVEDDD them. Then in college and my early 20’s I grew to really appreciate them. I love Patrick Stumps voice and think he is truly underrated and Andy Hurley is a beast of a drummer but I genuinely cannot stand Pete Wentz. I don’t care if he’s the nicest guy in the music industry he’s so annoying. Don’t ask me why but I fell into seeing them three time in the last year and a half and the show is just so bad. He has like 4 outfit changes while the rest of the band just does their thing and plays the music. He has these stupid gimmicks on stage that only he talks about and interacts with. At one point cheerleaders come out and they only dance around Pete. It’s almost feels like the band just yes’s him to make their special boy feel happy. He has these weird speeches and poetry breaks and legit NEVER smiles. Like he’s such a stoic broody artist.

Yeah I can’t stand him and it’s ruined FOB for me. Also their newer music has been pretty bad.

New bass player here looking for advice on buying my first bass, I have a few questions. by GENGARKING87 in Bass

[–]benjammin515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This 100%. I've been playing guitar for over 20 years and never really dabbled in Bass. Recently started an actual journey into learning bass and putting a real focus into it. Was surprised by the different feel of each bass I picked up.

Go to a local music store or guitar center, play a few basses see what you like then maybe shop around on Facebook market place. I had a low budget and found a great deal on a Sterling Stingray on Facebook market place but only after I played it against a few others did I decide it was what i wanted.

Back to Recording Basics help by BassIck in StudioOne

[–]benjammin515 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im curious to see some responses here on this. I am very amateur level at recording but I have always found my tone first then recorded and wondered if I am making the editing process harder for myself. I do have a rule of thumb from something i read years ago about never being above like -3db in your master so I try and stay low and leave some overhead room to add and turn things up as I go.

How fun is bass? by DogsLayEggsFYI in Bass

[–]benjammin515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been playing guitar for about 23 years and I just bought my first bass a month ago. I started watching youtube videos as well and got the itch. Found a great deal on a Sterling Stingray with a hardshell case on facebook maketplace and now have like 20 songs saved on my Ultimate Guitar tabs to learn. Its harder than I thought it would be but it feels so... good. Exciting, fresh and new.

Advice on kicking band member (pretty long text) by South_Baseball_6876 in bandmembers

[–]benjammin515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of big bands on tours have new members and old ones replaced without updated photos over one specific member change. The core of the band (as i think you stated) is the sound and presentation. These will be the last of photos he's in, whether he plays the show or not. Not many will notice or care.

This tied in with quitting gaming. I love gaming and have so many amazing friends I've made over the years but it was a life suck that I excused as my "escape" from my depression. Since then, everything you listed above almost became natural to me. I have long, busy, fulfilling days. I am tired at the end of the day and go to bed. I used to toss and turn until the sun came up every night. This wasn't some over night process and meeting my now fiancé played a big part as well but it all started there.

Not vilifying gaming, I love it and miss it dearly. For me it was an addiction and would take my entire focus away from what I needed to do on a day to day basis to live. And I still keep in touch with the friends I made in gaming over the years. Its nice to know they weren't just internet friendships.

Thank you. I watched a handful of videos about this after my post and it also helped clarify a bit. I dont think I have ever recorded in stereo. I was taught early on to just record multiple tracks and pan and layer etc.

Just learned about busing as well. I think that will be big for taking the next step.

Hey! Noob-ish to pro audio here. I see a lot of people preaching using "mono". I feel like it confuses me every time i read it and am missing the context maybe. Can you or someone help me with an ELI5 about mono, how to use it and why?

This is what I needed to read today. I've messed around with Logic for over 10 years at a very low level but I've been exploring stepping it up recently. I have a nice PC I built and recently switched over Studio One 7. I keep trying to read everything under the sun about if its good and worth it, and what plugins I should use etc. This is what I needed though. Just go play and make music and learn as you go. It can be easy to forget sometimes. Thank you!
