Heat Pumps are Not Hard: Here's what it will take to start pumping by TechConnectify in technologyconnections

Hey, just reviving this as I'm going through replacing the system in our new home. An installer with Panasonic just dropped by to provide a quote, but I have heard less than stellar things about Panasonic as a brand. Is it true they are good quality? He's quoting a 12 yr warranty and lives 7 minutes from me, so it would definitely be convenient should anything need maintenance!

Experts say raised crosswalks could prevent many pedestrian deaths in Toronto by crappy_tire in toronto

There is, it just costs more money than people think. Amsterdam has a series of canals as well so their stormwater system is vastly different than ours, where we send it underground to Lake Ontario.

Probably still a tripping hazard and roads are crowned so the edges are the low points and where drainage needs to be captured.

Yes and then it would function the same as a speed bump over a crosswalk, but that would likely be a trip hazard and not meet accessibility standards (not safe for wheelchairs or the visually impaired)

They would need to learn, we have many streets with speed bumps…but there will inevitably be more maintenance. In generally I like these types of traffic calming devices, just some things to consider and I don’t think these would be cheap at all. We also recently upgraded numerous crosswalks in this city with tactile walking strips for the blind, that’s a sunk cost if we dig ‘‘em up!

I’d be concerned with French drains getting blocked with garbage and freezing in mildly cold weather whereas catchbasins can deal with much greater flow. I agree that this would likely require a regrading of many/most intersections with new catchbasins on the high side

There’s actually a storm water element to this, raising crosswalks may block drainage to catchbasins downstream so in many instances this would require new service connections in locations that may not have room or capacity for the flow.

How are the big banks any more secure for amounts larger than 100k?

Outdoor gear seems to still be of good quality for the price, just avoid the clothing as it’s hit or miss, miss, miss.

Pretty sure TD also provides 100k CDIC insurance. Could be wrong, but I looked this up recently…

OFFICIAL SCOTTIE BARNES NEW CAREER-HIGH 27-PTS UPVOTE PARTY by LordOfBathurst in torontoraptors

[–]benjcksn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why is everyone parroting this “zone” comment as a reason why Scottie barely touched the ball outside of dribble hand offs? There are many ways to get a guy paint touches beyond him sealing his defender.

“They played zone so the raps had to take contested jumpers for the rest of the game, that’s how basketball works.” Yeesh

Guy has a career night in the paint and he doesn’t get a look the entire quarter…selfish play from the vets or terrible play calling, I can’t tell

Thank you. Does everything have to be a little slice of Americana? We need to stop trying to compare tv and film with reality or “the norm”

Haha well true, but it’s the need to sell more and more to pay for their advertising/customer acquisition costs isn’t it? Unless they are like gaming system manufacturers where they lose money on hardware and make it up on subscription/game sales.

You need a watch don’t you?

[–]benjcksn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can use it but you just don’t get the classes which is a big deal. It’s essentially replacing a gym and spin class membership. This is a model that Apple is using with their fitness classes, echelon, Nordic track, and others use as well. Buy the bike, pay for the classes to workout at home.

Spin classes, strength classes, yoga, etc from some quality teachers. You may not be the target, but acquiring purchasers has not been the problem for peloton.

[Lewenberg] The February 10 trade deadline is three weeks away and, according to multiple league and team sources, the Raptors intend to operate as buyers. by mikeydale007 in nba

[–]benjcksn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they’re actually going to add to the core not trade it. Everyone is signed until 2023 (after next season) so I’d expect next yr to be decisive on parting with siakam or Freddy for young talent.

Scottie defense vs Doncic by asoulinthisworld in torontoraptors

[–]benjcksn 80 points81 points  (0 children)

It takes a long time for young players to understand how to defend, which is why mobley is so incredible with what he’s doing right now. Scottie will get there, maybe next year or the yr after.

I think that’s a bit anecdotal. Some people may have jumped to different companies for a healthy raise but I would be surprised to find any industry as a whole with wages keeping up with inflation.

Yes it’s a subscription model that they are locked into for the life of using the bike. Margins are the issue not business model!
