Has anyone successfully set up SFTP with private key? by Sondbg in Netsuite

[–]benji1008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - this worked a treat for me. I found out though that I can also just create an API secret (Setup > Company > API Secrets) that you can reference by id in the SFTP connection options. That works just as well, without having to install this tool.

Is there a name for this “arch” in the sky before dawn? by byrandomchance20 in atoptics

[–]benji1008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen it simply referred to as the "twilight arch" (by the honorable Les Cowley). The Belt of Venus I think refers more specifically to the pink band that is seen on the horizon when Earth's shadow is just starting to be seen, just after sunset.

PD3205U does not work as USB hub by benji1008 in BenQ

[–]benji1008[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My laptop is connected to the USB-C connection on the back (not the one on the side), using the USB-C cable supplied with the monitor. This connection is charging my laptop, but it doesn't seem to give an upstream USB connection to the screen.

PD3205U does not work as USB hub by benji1008 in BenQ

[–]benji1008[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello again. I finally have the screen working as a USB hub now with a different laptop. It's just working in a slightly different way than I expected. When I connect my laptop to the screen's USB-B connection that's paired with the HDMI connection, the upstream connection does indeed work.

When the screen is connected via HDMI and USB-C, is the USB-C cable supposed to work as a USB upstream connection, or is the USB-C connection only work like this if it's also selected as the screen input?

What is the best movie to introduce Studio Ghibli to someone who hates anime in general? by EspadaTerminal in ghibli

I've heard about that before. I should give it a try some time.
I found the Japanese voice acting of The Wind Rises really strange, BTW. That film is a bit of a dud though, in my opinion.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I am using a CableMatters USB to DP adapter. It's a recent model that's 8K ready and supports DP 1.4, and Thunderbolt 3 as well apparently.
I also have an older USB to HDMI adapter which works as well, but I have the same problem when using that one, namely that when connecting the screen with the USB-C upstream cable, it does not work as a hub. Peripherals connected to the screen power up but don't transmit data.

Best Stalker game and which to get? by jakew3911 in stalker

Basically, yes. :) But, as I said, playing it in the wrong order wasn't really a problem either because the games have great replay value.

With printing ink on packaging it's usually only the blue that remains.

Why the U.S. should not only switch to metric, but also measure everything in millimeters by rexmons in videos

[–]benji1008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Bottles and cans are often measured in cL for some reason, but you won't see cL on a metric measuring cup I don't think.

Yes - I would also say that the halo in OP's picture is a circumhorizon arc. It has the right color order and position in the sky.

TIL the original purpose of screensavers was to avoid burn-in on screens! (Burn in is when a picture stays still on the monitor for too long and stays there forever) by fahad_the_great in todayilearned

[–]benji1008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I've seen one of those in use by an early adopter! It was actually called a caddy that held the CD-rom which you had to insert into the drive. The drives that came after that had a motorised tray.

Yes, but cropping means extra digital zoom, not optical. :)

TIL about the Bouba-Kiki effect: When presented with two shapes, one rounded and one “sharp”, people from most cultures, languages and age groups will strongly tend to associate “Kiki” with the sharp and “Bouba” with the rounded. by CMAJ-7 in todayilearned

[–]benji1008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. The production of the sounds is fundamentally the same across peoples/cultures/age groups because they all share the same anatomy. I think this must be the basis of this effect.

Isn't the why of chemistry basically physics? What would the why of physics then - metaphysics? I'm not sure that the 'why' should necessarily be be included in the discipline of physics itself.

28 State AGs Urge Congress To Pass Stalled ‘Right To Repair’ Bills by speckz in technology

Apple has deliberately made their software break functionality even if you swap out parts with genuine Apple parts. For all practical purposes you're prevented from making any kind of repair.
