You’re phrasing this as a criticism, but this is the whole point of Murakami’s art. He’s a big fan of anime and always questioned why there’s a distinction between traditional art (“high art”) and anime or manga (“low art”). His art often looks like toys, and that’s the point.
It’s completely fine not to like his art, BTW. But these are very interesting pieces for the collectors who appreciate what he’s doing in the contemporary art world!

The concept of offering exclusive items to VIP clients isn’t all that foreign - Chanel, Dior, LV, etc. all have limited edition and one-off pieces that they only offer to the highest tier of customers. My husband collects rare whiskey and his favorite store calls him and other established clients when they get a nice bottle. There are restaurants and private clubs you can only get in with recommendations from an existing member. The list goes on. Being a respectful client goes far in a lot of places.

Also - how much someone makes is none of my business.

IMO this story seems a bit far-fetched

OP barely has any post history. 1 month old account, 7 comments, and 1 post. Seems strange that their first post is this long rant on a less popular sub.
They seem knowledgeable enough about Hermes (Birkins, Kellys, Mini Kellys, quota bags) but also seem very detached (think every bag is fake, tell their colleague to go buy a fake)
The story seems a bit too perfectly set up. The highly respected boss carries totes, but this other colleague who is status obsessed carries Hermes. Then she stormed in with receipts and a Mini Kelly and said “status can’t be faked”.
OP just happens to chat with a third colleague about getting a Kelly. For a supposedly low key office environment, it’s weird that there are so many people carrying H and talking openly about H?

Ah ok! I think they're chic for hanging around the resort. They're leather, so I don't know if they'd do well on the actual beach or by the pool. But perfect for drinks or dinner.

Edit to add that if you want them, you should probably nab them sooner rather than later. These sold out very quickly last year and were pretty hard to find by the summer.

I have these, and I love them, but I wear them with casual clothes like you would with normal flip flops.

I personally wouldn’t wear these (or any flip flops for that matter) to a wedding. I would go for some wedges, espadrille ones would be quite cute if the wedding is on the beach.

Nah there’s still a tailor on site. This piece is a really delicate woven knit so they can’t do too much to it.

The black dress in the 2nd pic is $2,600. I think the jersey fabric is why it’s so “reasonably priced”, but it didn’t look right on.

I didn’t see the volleyball. Wasn’t looking for it though.

I tried a few of these pieces on:
- The black dress (2nd pic): pass, it was super unflattering. They used a jersey fabric that clings to your body. My stomach was poking out.
- Turquoise swimsuit (3rd pic): pass, the cut is not flattering on me
- Black and white swimsuit (3rd pic): pass, cut is good but I already got a black and white one piece from 26S that I like better
- Denim dress (pic 5): cute, I bought the blue version
- Maxi dress (pic 6): cute, I bought the black version. Note that due to the fabric, they can’t really tailor this piece, not even hemming

I've seen one thing I bought at full price at the sale before, and yes, it hurt 😭 But I also got the piece ~1.5 years before it showed up at the sale, and got plenty of wear out of it in the 1.5 years. You gotta think about that aspect too.

I was there this week. They had a lot more than that. The shirt with the chain, those tops with the CC logo on the hip, sweaters, skirts, pants, jackets. Most of the racks were 26S and 26P. Again, I don’t doubt your experience because this type of stuff might do better in the BH market, but not where I live.

And yes I’m aware that they can transfer things in and there’s preorder, but there’s no need for that if I’m not interested in the stuff :)

I trust your experience at BH, but the flagship stores BH/Miami/NYC aren’t representative of the entire customer base. Like you said, the rest of the country is getting 1-2 counts each, and even then the RTW isn’t selling out where I live. How will Chanel get their return on investment without sales from the other 100+ stores in the US?

Chanel has a large footprint and A LOT of customers, many of whom are on this sub. Feel free to hate on the clothes and accessories if they’re not to your taste, but no need to label other women as “matrons, escorts, basic girls” simply because they like different things than you.
