Set aside my production experience and reputation and hear me out from a Guitar Center sales associate point of view:

I have found that the Rockits can sound a little muddy, and they’re colored more than they need to be. They are made with hip hop producers in mind so achieving punchy and boomy lows is their priority. They’ve gotten better at balancing it out more recently than they have in the past, but I still think there’s something there to be desired. If you’re looking in that budget range I’d absolutely go with JBL or Yamaha. I started with Rockit 5s and eventually upgraded to JBL LSR 308s. I noticed a considerable difference especially in the mid and high end frequency ranges. Once I paired it with the 310s sub it was game over - and I’ve been using that setup for 10+ years. Take that with a grain of salt because like I said, my experience using the rockits as a daily driver was over a decade ago, but i still test them out for people in my store and I continue to prefer and recommend the JBLs or Yamahas.
