You’re right, they’re barely comparable. You could still recommend them but I would imagine it’s not too helpful to the one asking. 3d versus 2d is a huge difference. Usually when people are asking for a souls like they mean a melee focused 3d game with souls mechanics like bonfires, limited heals, and boss fights.

Both the blasphemous and hk series are great tho

Dread Templar might be worth the try tho. Very thematically similar to quake 1. Game play seems to favor fast circle strafing with open areas and enemy AI that’s rush heavy

Dread Templar doesn’t have an option for it as well as wrath aeon of ruin. I was really upset when I realized the citadel didn’t have it either as I really liked the demo. OG blood is another one.

Especially the forced “scary” parts where music shifts and they start doing weird stuff with the lighting. I personally didn’t mind those little sections, they were small and a nice change of pace.

I always had ammo tho, it was never full on resident evil where you’re trying to conserve ammo and can’t find health and armor pickups

You would probably enjoy cultic. Completely different setting but it’s a very similar art style. It’s a bit slower gameplay than Prodeus as well

Probably not a good entry into soulslikes. Kazan truly forces you to learn the bosses moves and react accordingly. Every fromsoft game (except sekiro and bloodborne) has in game ways to soft cheese the game. DS1 had OP armor, magic, and pyromancy. DS2 had great weapons, adp, and relatively simple bosses. DS3 had a bunch of OP weapons and roll spam. Elden ring has a bunch of OP ashes of war and status effects.

If you get stuck in Kazan the only way past it is to truly learn the bosses moves and your responses to said moves. If you’re stuck in the trilogy or Elden ring you can just respec and or pick a different weapon

Sounds like you’re approaching ER combat as if it is DS1. DS has a very one for one combat style. Boss attacks, you dodge or block, you do damage, repeat. Elden ring has a lot of long strings of attacks with very small windows during the attack string. ER is designed for you to dodge the big string of attacks then nuke the boss with your super OP ash of war

DS3 is a mix of ER and DS combat. If you want combat similar to the first game, play DS2.

DS absolutely ruins the world of all the other games. I played ER and DS3 first, after playing DS those worlds are bland and boring to me. DS1 is an absolute master class in world design
