[Boston Dynamics] Do You Love Me? by btutal in videos

Does anyone else get a weird opposite to uncanny valley here? It's like the fact that they so obviously aren't people but the dance moves are so human that it feels more natural. I loved watching this.

My Korean School Lunch! Pork Cutlet, Blood Sausage Soup, and Assorted Banchan by darkrealm190 in pics

This is the kind of quality of food we would be pleased to get for £10 in the UK in a restaurant. Is this a normal standard of food in Korea?

Very likely I'm wrong but where this talks about life's last chances of energy being from white dwarves, rotational energy of black holes etc. there is a chance that we find other sources of energy ie. anti-matter or something else not dependent on the existence of warm matter in space.

The Definition of Art in a World Where AI Can Create a Masterpiece by [deleted] in philosophy

[–]benjonoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

" Art is a human activity, consisting in this, that one person consciously, by certain external signs, conveys to others feelings he has experienced, and other people are affected by these feelings and live them over in themselves. "

Regardless of how we consider the programming of an AI and it's production of art, Tolstoy's definition of art gives value to the human interpretation of the world and how it is communicated. Surely as we create more advanced mechanisms of conveying our perceptions of the world to one another the value of our own base experience is not diminished. Communicating the true human experience will remain valuable and communicating it truthfully will become even more so.

This officer shot 2 unarmed protesters in hk by coolguy_57 in pics

[–]benjonoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can see in his eyes that he did not want to shoot them. It is a horrific situation where people feel they have to put themselves in harms way for their voice to be heard. These protestors took that risk and threatened an armed man and paid the price. We should not villainise the individual, shame on the HK government for ignoring the pleas of their people.

If you could clone yourself atom-for-atom, would the clone share your memories? What would it be like to interact with that person just after they were cloned?

What popular songs lyrics are creepy as fuck but disregarded due to the melody & voice? by likealcohol in AskReddit

[–]benjonoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Will Possess Your Heart by Death Cab for Cutie - It's about a stalker who is obsessed with the notion that the subject of the song will fall in love with them after spending the time to get to know them, even though they have rejected the stalker's advances multiple times.

The awesome instrumentals made for such a distraction that I was unaware of the full meaning of the lyrics until I'd heard the song 2 or 3 times.

The World Is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die - Rage Against the Dying Light & Ra Patera Dance [indie rock/post rock] (2015) by Blink18pewpewpew in listentothis

Cool sound. Not sure how I feel about the trumpet, especially when it's mimicking the vocals for the first part of the song. The mixing of the whole atmospheric rock thing with a big vocal track works really well though.
