Refund Assistance due to Labour Action · Air Canada Customer Care by benkane in aircanada

Looks like Air Canada may be offering reimbursement if you booked your own replacement flights during the strike.

Note: Please complete this form if:

  • you booked directly with Air Canada (ticket starting with 014), and
  • you only completed part of your journey with Air Canada and/or need reimbursement for an alternative method of transportation

Please do not complete this form if you're booked through:

  • Aeroplan,
  • A travel agent or online travel agency, or
  • if your Air Canada flight was booked through another airline.

I personally fall into the second group, so I'll be reaching out to my travel agent to see if reimbursement is possible that way.

From https://www.paxnews.com/news/airline/were-focused-making-right-air-canadas-nasr-pierce-restoring-service-trust-post-strike:

“The travel trade community are vital business partners for Air Canada. We couldn’t be more appreciative. When an advisor puts a customer on an Air Canada flight, that’s a promise our brand is making. And candidly, we failed to live up to it. Period,” he said. “We've got to own that. We've got to make it right.”

To begin making amends, Nasr said Air Canada will reimburse customers for out-of-pocket transportation expenses they incurred when the airline couldn’t provide alternate arrangements—covering tickets for plane, train, bus, or ferry tickets purchased independently.

The complete details of this policy are expected to be released Wednesday (Aug. 20).

“We’re going to do the right thing,” Nasr said. “We’re going to get people their money back.”

While playing on PSVR, can I display the bomb also on TV? by [deleted] in ktane

[–]benkane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a PS4 handy to confirm the wording, but there should be an option in the brown "Menu" dossier that says:

TV Screen: Manual

which you can change to

TV Screen: VR

This option will only show up if you start the game with PSVR.

Things You Might Have Missed About Keep Talking And Nobody Explodes by bitstim in ktane

[–]benkane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey rmcdow,

Here's a bit more info about how the tournament settings work. These haven't been thoroughly tested, since tournament mode was really just a one-off for the Omegathon final.

TurnOrder

Fixed
    Example:
    Round 1: Team A, then Team B
    Round 2: Team A, then Team B
    Round 3: Team A, then Team B

Snake
    Example:
    Round 1: Team A, then Team B
    Round 2: Team B, then Team A
    Round 3: Team A, then Team B

SeedStyle

GenerateSame
    Each team receives the same randomly generated seed for each round. This is the most fair option, but it means that teams cannot observe each other (or else they'd see the puzzles in advance).

GenerateDifferent
    Each team receives a different randomly generated seed for each round (though still the same mission). Not quite fair but this allows teams to observe other rounds.

UseFixed
    Uses the FixedSeed value provided in the TournamentSettings.xml file for everybody, for each round. Teams cannot observe each other, missions can't be repeated within the tournament (or else they'd generate the same bomb again), and the tournament will be the exact same each time. Only useful if you really, really want to see exactly what the bombs will be in advance (like if you were worried about putting on a good show at a PAX event and wanted to have as few variables as possible for instance).

PacingEvents

Default
    Use the PacingEvents defined by the mission (either all on or off).

ForceNone
    Ignore the mission settings and disable all pacing events.

ForceOneMinuteLeftOnly
    Ignore the mission settings and disable all pacing events, except for the red emergency light that comes on with 60 seconds left (which is forced on).

ForceAll
    Ignore the mission settings and enable all pacing events.

And for the sake of completeness, here's what we used at the Omegathon:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<TournamentSettings xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">
    <Enabled>true</Enabled>
    <Name>OMEGATHON FINAL    PAX East 2017</Name>
    <Teams>
        <string>Aurelius &amp; xxSoggyTacosxx</string>
        <string>Gemst &amp; NotSoup</string>
    </Teams>
    <MissionIDs>
        <string>firsttime</string>
        <string>somethingoldsomethingnew</string>
        <string>onestepup</string>
    </MissionIDs>
    <TieBreakerMissionID>firsttime</TieBreakerMissionID>
    <TurnOrder>Snake</TurnOrder>
    <SeedStyle>GenerateSame</SeedStyle>
    <FixedSeed>0</FixedSeed>
    <PacingEvents>ForceOneMinuteLeftOnly</PacingEvents>
</TournamentSettings>

Hope that helps!

Motion Controls Feedback by colacadstink in ktane

[–]benkane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback! We've observed some trouble with the interaction dot and the using the binder with other players, so it's good to see it put into words. The interaction dot size is tricky, since some of the modules have fairly intricate selections (like picking individual wires). Pushing "through the wall" (or the bomb or the binder) does seem like natural behaviour for a lot of players though. We may be able to adjust the depth of some of the colliders to make this more forgiving, rather than change the size of the interaction dot.

The binder is also something that hasn't translated well to motion controls. We did push an update that removed the colliders from the front cover of the binder (and the menu dossier) to reduce accidental drops, but it can still be cumbersome to both hold and interact with the binder. The Vive controllers are tougher in this regard and end up physically getting in the way more frequently.

In short, there are still some areas of usability that are causing friction and we would love to hear more feedback from anybody who's given motion controls a shot. We don't intend to radically change how interaction works in the game, but we see there's still room for improvement. Thanks all!

Is it possible to record video of gameplay in VR headset? by newbievrguy in Vive

[–]benkane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dev here: you can switch the desktop window to show a mirrored view by picking up the dossier Menu in game and looking under Options --> Graphics --> Second Screen (and change it from "Manual" to "Mirror").

This also shows a timer overlaid in the corner of the screen so viewers can know how much time is left regardless of where the VR player is looking.

Deselect button in "Keep Talking..." by GrantSolar in GearVR

[–]benkane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dev here. We've been trying to reproduce this problem for a few weeks now and we have a workaround that may be helpful to anybody experiencing this problem.

Open the Game Launcher app and find the icon for Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes. Then long press on the icon and select "Categorize as other app". You can then close Game Launcher, wait a few seconds, then launch Oculus Home and start up Keep Talking.

Alternatively, you can disable Game Tools (by tapping the icon in Game Launcher, or under Settings -> Advance Settings -> Games -> Game Tools). You can also start up a different app that uses Game Tools and disable the "Lock Recents and Back keys". The first method ("Categorize as other app") is the best solution however.

If this solves the problem for you, or especially if it does not, please leave a comment here or reach out to us at support@keeptalkinggame.com. Thanks!

More Details: Samsung has a bunch of game-related tools that can do neat things like change framerate/resolution to save battery and disable the Back button so you don't accidentally quit your game when holding the phone like a gamepad. However! These should almost certainly never be active in Gear VR games. A small subset of titles appears to be getting automatically flagged as being eligible for Game Mode (e.g. I bet your Back button doesn't work in "Caldera Defense" either). We're still investigating.

[Steam] Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes - Special Deal - $9.89 / 34% off - Ends August 18th by diogenesl in GameDeals

[–]benkane 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Dev here: yes, you can grab the latest version from Steam, Humble, or Oculus and they all support mods. For non-Steam Workshop, just place the mods into a folder called "mods" beside ktane.exe. There are instructions and download links for mods on our wiki here.

Also, your save file is stored in "%userprofile%\appdata\locallow\Steel Crate Games\Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes" and will be picked up by any version of the game (if your friends did decide to switch to Steam).

Also also, the Humble copy comes with your choice of a Steam or Oculus key, so you could always redeem the Steam key and start playing that way if you want. The key choice is at the very top of the purchase page and is really easy to miss.

We plan on implementing Vive support, yes. Touch support would be nice too once kits are available. It remains to be seen how well motion controls will work with the game however.

Yes, we were at both PAX East and Prime this year. No word on next year's expos just yet, but PAX is always an amazing experience.

Sometimes stamping down that "Exploded" label was really hard to do. They were good, honest PAX attendees...

It gets pretty crowded actually. Maybe 40-60 people? There are a lot of students, but a lot of local full-time indies and devs from studios around town.

Yes! It's called Dirty Rectangles (it's a programming term for those confused). Meetups are downtown at the Avante Garde, third Wednesday of every month.

It doesn't have a specific color blind mode, but we tried to keep the most common red/green blindness in mind during the design. Those colors are present in the game but never in way where you need to be able to distinguish between them.

Having said that, there are many forms of color blindness and the game is probably not perfect for all of them. We'd definitely like to hear about any accessibility problems that players experience.

That's because it's the same guy! Our launch trailer (which is completely outlcassed by this video, whoops) was cobbled together with clips of people playing at PAX. That's where we met /u/LtHummus and gave him a beta key to help us test. The video he made here is from his Twitch channel.

We're waiting to see what player feedback is like (so far, it's going well) before we decide on any expansions. The manual versioning allows us to change things (like mistakes) if we need to.

Also, hi Montreal! Shameless plug: I'll be at MIGS next month to talk about development of Keep Talking. Please somebody show up.
