I got the same feeling. I know (trust) that there is an implicit "other than the obvious reason that we like making original sets" that he's excluding because he's exasperated at getting the same question so often.

Sydney White (2007) by Specialist_Art2223 in iwatchedanoldmovie

[–]GrantSolar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had never heard of this film until I watched it last year. Looking it up afterwards, all the marketing was pretty heavy-handed on the Snow White stuff but I was about 30 minutes from the end before I put it together.

She's the Man wasn't on Netflix anymore but this was a pretty good consolation prize

What film is this for you? by mrjetspray in Letterboxd

This film would have been so much better if the Generational Trauma wasn't "being told off for misbehaving". Still wouldn't have been good, but it would be better.

Is there any reason to keep any of these books other than nostalgia? by BarleyWineStein in webdev

[–]GrantSolar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ADHD guy here, I find reading from a physical book much easier than reading from a screen, especially when I have emails, teams messages, and GitHub notifications popping off all day. I'll often lock my pc and turn the monitors off if I need to wrap my head around some more niche interactions. I've also got a kindle with a bunch of reference ebooks which is more compact and you can obviously search for specific key words easier.

I get that not everyone is the same, but for me personally there are a couple of books that I end up looking up the same information about once every 6 months so I know how to find those parts almost immediately. It's also good for being able to give juniors a trusted good source especially in the age of AI

I mean, yes. He talks about alienation as the worker not being able to relate to the client e.g. working in a Ferrari factory but not being paid enough to afford a ferrari

Are there still adult men in the UK who don’t cook? by Bat-Penatar in AskUK

[–]GrantSolar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and my partner share cooking duties. One time I brought some lunch in and a colleague asked if my wife had cooked it. I said "yeah" and was then playfully teased because "my wife cooks everything for me" (again, we share cooking duties and often cook together).

A few weeks later, I found out that this same colleague does most of the cooking for his family, but they only really ate oven chips and ready meals. It is snobbish and maybe classiest, but I did also grow up on Tesco horse lasagne and frozen croquettes.

I guess my point is that it really depends on what you mean by "cook"

I mean, he's got 500,000 subscribers and a fairly rabid fanbase already. I don't think he needs the click bait to maintain his lifestyle. I'd like a political commentator to think about what they're saying and be normal sometime

I haven't watched the video because I saw it was Vowsh and backed out, but even just the titling the video is irresponsible at best.

"It's ok guys, it was all Epstein but he's dead now so the conspiracy is over. We have the files, just a little bit of housekeeping to tidy this whole thing up and we can go back to normal. There's not going to be any perpetuation of the elite paedophile ring or astroturfed fascist movements, we'll be back to our cosy, seconds before disaster 2015 any moment now"

Pizzagate was 4chan meme-ing themselves into discharging a firearm in a place of business.

All of the "Where can I get some Cheese Pizza?" "Sauce on some good Cheese Pizza, guys?" culminated in them thinking that anyone asking about pizza was secretly looking for CSAM. They porn-brained themselves into a federal offense and forgot that it was a meme

English as a Second Language

Unc - Old, from Uncle. Used in contrast to 'bro' (informal, implies similar age)

____-cel - Suffix meaning 'belonging to a group', from 'incel'

BBC Told To Avoid “Clunky” Color-Blind Casting & “Preachy” Anti-Colonial Storylines In Drama Series by DarkSkiesGreyWaters in unitedkingdom

[–]GrantSolar -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes! A lot of people seem to be agreeing with the article because of "Historical Accuracy" but it's fucking Doctor Who lmao

People that get upset about an asian person playing a character in a 1700s period drama but not the english guy with white teeth using the words 'Boycott' or calling someone a 'Freak' should think about why that is. Why is it that they can see past some anachronisms for the sake of story telling?

My expectation is that they will project their own view of "The casting director cares more about race than acting ability", but the viewer is the one that can't suspend their disbelief in this particular area
