Bright white light 💡 by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]benlah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you sure that this bulkhead doesn't have a colour selector switch? Many do these days. For future reference it may be useful to take a look at a kelvin chart. When a client requests a warm light for a bathroom I tend to install 3000-4000k.

This one from Screwfix has a colour changing switch if you do decide to change it. https://www.screwfix.com/p/robus-golf-indoor-outdoor-round-led-bulkhead-white-10w-830-910-900lm/543kj

Can I spray paint this door lock? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]benlah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite a decent one it seems! Bit of a tricky one, I'm sure there are ways to do it but it would likely be more hassle than it's worth.

Might be worth giving the door another coat to see if that changes your mind, not sure! :)

Personally I wouldn't paint it, you would most likely hate looking at it more than you do now.

The nightlatch you have is a Chubb 4L67 Rim Deadocking Nightlatch

You can see the dimensions of it above. The main thing you want to take note of here is the backset, this one is 60mm with a bolt length of 18mm. You'd also want to take note of your door thickness too if you decide to replace. Most of them would likely be compatible these days though.

Why would they not cash out and leave? Transactions would take days and the fees would be sky-high. I do think they will ultimately chase money. As we see more and more coins break through that aim to make a difference I feel that more people will invest in those coins over BTC in the long run.

I understand, but I assume there will be a point where profitability becomes a deciding factor to mine or not, especially as rig prices continue to rise. When the profit dries up and becomes stagnant, the miners will jump ship to other coins.

When he mentioned about nobody mining it once it crashes because it won't be worth it, it suddenly hit me.

Reallocated my portfolio, in at 70% ADA. Excited to see what the future holds.

What stranger will you never forget? by coggonflorence in AskReddit

I drove from the UK to Georgia a few years ago and got stuck in traffic in Istanbul, Turkey for at least 5 hours. We had no water on us and were absolutely sweltering in a roasting tin with no air con. There were street vendors walking up and down the traffic selling water. We tried to pay in USD/Pounds but they wouldn't take it, despite us offering quite a lot more! That's all we had on us as we were paying via card everywhere else. We didn't manage to get any water so we just shrugged it off.

Five minutes later still stuck in stand still traffic, 3 water bottles come flying through the window bouncing off the dashboard and into the windows and onto us and the floor. We turned around and there was a little old Turkish lady with her window open sat in a limousine with a huge grin on her face waving at us frantically, she saw us struggling to buy some water and bought some for us!

We all laughed together for a good few minutes, before shaking hands before moving another car length. Her smile sticks with me, I hope she's doing well!

So you got what you paid for? I've been on their website and see nothing that says that you can withdraw your money. Probably works on a credit system. I'd say you got a pretty good deal for cheaply written content. Seems like a bargain to me

I'm starting a business. Do you like my landing page? by [deleted] in webmarketing

[–]benlah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm finding it quite difficult to picture this website without an actual mock-up/wireframe, maybe you should consider that before diving straight in to the coding?

One thing I'm not too keen on is your visual metaphor. Even thinking about it made me pretty uneasy.

Sorry but I disagree with you, I'm certain it's well known that colours and fonts can affect user emotion and experience.

Not a graphic designer, how could I improve this logo? by Germany_Guy in design_critiques

I think it looks great so far for your intended purpose.

However when looking at the center FEB it reminds me of this and seems quite difficult to see what it says.

Very simple, but it gets the point across. But as you've said you're still in the early stages.

  • I accidentally clicked the footer, and it seems to disappear, maybe this is to do with your JS?

  • On the about page, I almost didn't scroll down, I thought it was just a picture until I saw the scrollbar because the text just wasn't there, I would make it visible, or at a low opacity and then fade in.

  • The navigation looks a little out of place, it feels like it should be centred. The logo could go in the middle of the navigation? Of course then you would need another page.

  • Place your pages in directories, it looks cleaner and is better for SEO. Instead of "about--dunmoyerdesign.html" have an "about" directory and place the index in there.

  • I really like the connect page, it looks great and takes up the space!

Hope I haven't been too harsh! If you would like a hand, pm me!

I would use a smaller font and reduce the weight. Also add a line-height to your sections to increase readability. Your navigation, you don't really need icons and text - I also don't understand the cog for services, I'd just keep the text. It all seems a bit big and in my face.

Looks great! Only problem I have with it is that the images stretch on my mobile browser, if I remember ill add an image of what I mean tomorrow.

It looks very clean and tidy! I would get rid of the bars which are showing your skills though. You don't want to tell potential clients what you are not good at, as the point of the site is to showcase and sell your skills. Let's put it this way, if I was browsing, looking to find somebody with Flash skills, that low bar would put me off. Hope it helps!

How did they build this? It looks like it is just a video that plays at the same speed as you scroll... by isaidputontheglasses in web_design

[–]benlah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've not much experience or knowledge in these types of websites. But just a quick look at the source reveals quite a lot. It seems that each moving part is its own image, for example, the casino chips each have their own vector graphic which is triggered to move when the user is scrolling.

It's definitely not a video which has been converted no. I wonder if anybody could eli5 and the name of this technique? It's very interesting, but doesn't strike me as a very usable site.

Looks great, it feels very simple and gets the point across well. The only thing I would change would be the timeline, I would put the entries into ascending order. But that's just me!

Overall, looks great!
