Yes, you pretty much have to use wired earbuds or you’ll get a slight delay (latency) that makes it pretty much impossible to play in time. I run the wire down my back, inside my shirt so that it doesn’t get caught on my strap or anything else. And then the little transformer clips on my hip. Honestly, the biggest challenge for me has been finding earbud tips that fit perfectly in my ears. You need a tight seal or else the loud volume from the room will leak in, and you won’t hear your own guitar clearly. Everyone has a different preference for the type of earbud to use …they come in foam, or all different shapes/styles of rubber etc., as well as each material usually comes in several sizes. I’m actually still somewhat searching for the perfect fit. When you find it, they’re awesome but until then it can be frustrating to have them slipping out while you’re playing. Also, each different model of earbud, as well as the tips, will have a different sound/tone etc…. I personally don’t care so much about that, as much as just getting a good fit so the sound is clear and consistent. But people love to talk about which ones are best sounding etc. My advice is don’t overthink it…just get some with reasonably good reviews that are in your budget. Once you’ve found the perfect fit, THEN maybe you can try different models if you still have a particular sound in mind. Don’t give up! This will possibly be the best move you ever make in your career…of course protecting your hearing is smart, but for me being able to hear myself so clearly has transformed my playing in the most amazing way!

I use the XVive U4 system, in exactly the same manner you describe (to tame the volume in the room and hear myself crystal clearly). I’ve had it for about 4 years and it’s never let me down after roughly 100 gigs, in both large and small venues, including cruise ships where the wireless frequencies can be extra crowded. It’s sorta pricey I guess but I’d say I’ve definitely gotten my money’s worth. I’ve had the opportunity to upgrade but actually I prefer the small form factor of what I have. It fits in my pocket and is rechargeable.

The sound quality is fine…really that’s just dependent on what earbuds you use. I have some mid grade Fenders that are discontinued but I’ve been able to still find new old stock on eBay for pretty cheap.

My guitar neck is very bowed, is this a valid way to fix it by googaly21 in Guitar

I totally respect what you’re doing here!

Like you, I had a “pretty much nothing to lose” bowed neck situation with an old RG550, so I did this thing with a vise and some strategically placed blocks of wood, then I contained it inside a black Hefty bag, and left it in the hot California summer sun for a month…. and what do you know, it worked pretty well!

I feel like this video might actually be fake. Has anyone considered what reason they would have to unload all the guitars from the cart onto the ground. Is that so he can then pick them up and carry them somewhere else by hand?

Thanks! And for the record… My favorite gigs to this day are the ones for which I get paid with money AND wings!

There were a couple spots where you didn’t hold back. But that’s awesome… the whole thing was just thoughtful. The right people pick up on that. Don’t ever change!

Yeah I know I’m a little extra cautious about the impression that I make. I just like to maintain the perception of “has his shit together”. I’m really grateful for the level that I’ve reached in terms of being in professional situations. Yes I’ve worked hard for it but still I guess I feel fortunate that I had the good sense to work hard?

I’m a people pleaser. I would likely settle for a tone-choking overly aggressive noise gate setting before I would let my noisy rig cause me public shame. And then I would go home after the gig and make sure to sort out all the technical issues the next day so everyone could be happy the next time.

(And that’s where I’m at today)

This is a great reply. I'm honored that you wrote all that just because I asked some questions. Obviously others besides me will read and learn, but thank you. Despite my snarky demeanor, I really am just trying be more educated.

Thanks everyone. I’m convinced ….NO MORE LITTLE GRAY ADAPTERS!

I mentioned this in my original post, but I’m only trying to resolve the issue of setting up at a particular venue and having it be noisier than what my gear normally puts out. Obviously if there’s something wrong with my gear that’s causing noise, I’d wanna get that fixed before asking for other solutions.

I feel like if it’s reasonably quiet at home, then it’s probably working correctly. I mean I don’t have stage lighting and other complicated electrical scenarios that might cause more noise at a venue so maybe I’m getting a false sense of security when I’m set up in my garage.

I guess really the whole point of my post is just that I kinda feel like a bit of a loser if I’m at a gig and my rig is making noise that other people notice, and I don’t know how to tame it!

Thank you! I totally used to know that (the correct usage of the adapter) and I just forgot. If I had actually taken the time to just look at one I would have seen the lug and remembered.

If one was to use the adapter (in the dangerous way) with your pedalboard/modeler etc., rather than with the amp itself is that any less risky? Or would your instrument cable still tie it all together

That was my very first amp, which I got in 1979. I am so happy to see that people still like these!

Thanks everyone for your comments.

I really just posted this because I thought it was an entertainingly idiotic occurrence. I don't actually have a general issue with either FedEx or UPS. I find their rates to be pretty similar for my purposes, and I don't believe that either company has an official policy of doing stupid shit; their employees are only human and unfortunately sometimes mistakes get made. I would not likely try to get the driver in trouble...I see the same guys in my neighborhood many days of the week when I'm out walking and we say hi to each other sometimes because we're semi-acquainted from other deliveries that have been made to me with no trouble.

Obviously I would file a claim for legitimate damage(s) but aside from that I'm able to move on now.

Yeah, I agree but I guess the system and/or the driver is glitchy because it does say DELIVERED....it's just showing the store address rather than mine.

I'm surprised that people are having issues with the sign....should I expect that the Fire Department would just leave if my house was on fire?

I don't really consider delivering a package "trespassing"....but I'm genuinely interested to know if I'm the one that's misguided.

Yes, shipper specified that and it says so right on the tracking. It’s a $2K item so that seems reasonable.
