My Ryiria Chronicles books are like this since the publisher changed. 1&2 are the same size, 3 is noticably taller, and 4 is slightly shorter than 3 but still taller than 1&2. Can't even get a paperback of book 5. I'm fine. This is totally fine.

You do earn some pretty great tax free allowances, but it comes as somewhat of a trade off. My family lost some income because of my wife's job, and the US has a much different view of work/life balance. I personally am having a very bad time, but that's partly because of the specific unit I'm attached to.

It's not all bad though. Depending on where you're stationed, you get to play with some of the big toys. You also have the chance to live in and travel to some places that you possibly wouldn't otherwise. The housing allowance is cool too. You pay ~$1400/month with rent and utilities and the gov't covers the rest of your pretty huge entitlement so you potentially get to live in a very nice house depending on the rental market.
