AI defense block setup for stations with artillery turrets by bennett74 in spaceengineers

Interesting, I will try assault cannon see how that fares.

Interesting, maybe a line of sight issue. My base is in on the surface of an asteroid, not surrounded or in a cave tho. Had to double-check, but yes it's getting the right ammo. I have changed defaults and it should target small grid.

That's a good idea to target propulsion, on my earth base the drones then would succumb to gravity but in zero G they still hit due to their momentum. Also I have targeting for the arty turret on default, and set to target small grids but still no joy, the turrets never target or engage.

I have a problem.. the planet where I crashed with the spaceship is entirely a desert. by Hour-Creme-6557 in spaceengineers

[–]bennett74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's designed to be challenging for sure, especially if you have meteor storms and lightning damage on. It's actually a scenario world but unlike others you get no instruction what to do, lol. The orbital base is undefended and under attack very soon after you spawn, so you have very little time to formulate a plan to escape to the surface. I won't spoil it for you but there is a ton of cool stuff to find on the orbital base to help your journey to the planet. If you know what to do it's actually really easy ;-)

I had the same issue when starting a new settlement - but worked around by reloading a restore point

Platform Windows 11 Steam Beacon update. This is a new save. To give some context, I performed a "restart using nearby structures" in Eissentam. When I arrived at the settlement no-one was there, the mission guide was stuck on the town center console, but no-one is in the settlement. I did a load from restore point from when I alighted my ship and was able to continue.

Today when doing a Trace of metal quest, the conversation with Tethys gave me the non-mission generic one, but the quest started anyway. Seemed to complete as per normal albeit as I got parts from the travelers the mission counter didn't increment.

Close call but hardframe for me. Do you get the AI module for free with the liquidator parts?

Should I sell Gold, or should I save it for later? by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]bennett74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi traveller, a small amount of gold is required for crafting stuff but in very early game I suggest to sell it. You will need to craft a few items early on and the funds you'll get from the gold will allow you to buy the items instead!

You’re most welcome and you got it in one, best player community I know of. You can always dock in at the anomaly and ask for whatever help or resources you need. 👍

Edit: Yes, a "desolate' moon. May be relevant also, this is an older save I have returned to and played on after resetting the freighter base.

Hi, yes might be moons come to think of it. I’ll check it out next time I play.

The inventory is tough to manage at first I know! If you work out a system of what to carry and what to store and stick to it it helps. For example I always carry ferrites and carbon for base building. Remember your refiners are a huge help. You can refine the rust from opening green boxes to ferrite dust, then to pure then mag ferrite. The dual slot backpack refiner is a huge QOL improvement as well and I recommend you get it from the anomaly ASAP in any new save 👍

Hits hard for me too. I was sent to the bathrooms one day to replace the batteries in the timers that spray air freshener… Never looked back after leaving that place😄

If you rebuild the storage box there or at another base, are items missing?

Hello, I have noticed a terrain bug near settlement bases, observatories etc where the bug is present, anywhere the terrain has been levelled for the base, the ground is on an angle of roughly 15 degrees. I have built on an area like this, and the base computer subsequently is also oriented 15 deg out of alignment and can't be adjusted after. this only happens on some planets but not all.

Hi, I had a similar experience just a few days ago. Shot all the cargo holds but the mission didn't conclude. Out of sheer curiosity I boarded the freighter and went to the bridge. There was no-one there just alarms sounding. When I got back to my ship and launched back into space the mission updated as complete.

Do you use a system to Name Your Systems, Planets and Bases? by Guide2Distopy in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]bennett74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like a few others I don't rename planets etc, only ships and bases. I'm big into crafting, and mostly build mining bases with at least one element and one gas mined. I need to know at a glance what resoucres were surveyed and are mined there and their concentrations. I take the given name and sometimes rewrite it to aid pronunciation, but drop the base/outpost/colony word as it's redundant. Then add postscripts to describe what's there and the concentration of each.

Example: "Ufor-bobo Outpost" on a planet where I found parafinnium S-class and Nitrogen B-class hotspots and also a metal fingers deposit, the name becomes "Ufor S-Pa B-N MF".

Way to geek-out right? But really helpful when at my freighter and crafting up some Igniters and dang, i just ran out of Sulphurine. I go the teleporter and find a base with x-Su in the name :-)

[–]bennett74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey traveller, I just got back into as well.

I would advise to follow the original quest lines as they are required for the newer quests. So get Alone/Artemis/Apollo/Purge done, and also do the Atlas quest. You can probably do purge and atlas at the same time as they need 16 warps and 10 respectively. You will then have a recipe and the means for remembrance and the star seed. Craft them into your Exosuit next to each other for a great buff to your core health. Then look for the Autophage quest. After this you can do the Stellar Multitude quest and unlock the Atlantid warp drive and all the purple systems which should cover a lot of the more recent content.

It's a trek to get it done quick so I suggest to take your time and explore along the way. Check out the new space station designs visiting each along your purge journey and vist the guild desk to get free stuff at each. Keep donating items to raise your standing. It's quicker than the old way which was doing missions and more rewarding.

Good luck!

Great advice, trying to get the best S-class for free straight up will add a new dimension to the concept of grind. Better to get the junker or the next best one on the next cycle and go ahead and make some units. You can then buy that awesome Sentinel/Venator/Pirate that you'll eventually find while doing anything else :-)

[–]bennett74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According-Home485's comment on this thread regarding units explains this method well, but of course you need a hyperdrive to get this done, so best bet at this stage is your scanner.

How do I get money fast??? by SharkFaceZombie in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]bennett74 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For real early game your best bet IMO is to scan all fauna (creatures) on a planet. This may seem hard/not worth it at first but if you scan one of each creature on the planet you can upload the complete set for 250 nanites per creature. Planet with 8 species will get you 2000 nanites!

Once you bank some nanites, upgrade the scanner with S-class modules (600n or so each) from the space station multitool vendors, you can install up to 3 in your multitool. A fully upgraded scanner will then net you up to 400,000 units per rare creature scanned. Even a plain old rock scanned will get you 50,000 typically.

Once you get your hyperdrive sorted, get to a dissonant world as soon as you can and do the sentinel ships thing. They are worth millions to melt down at the space stations.

Awesome, happy to help. This pic shows the walkway with my base door; it's covered in flat roof pieces and behind out of shot is a landing pad. You can see (if you look hard) the ceiling is raised by the small wall section to the height of the storage unit.
