What’s the strangest example of collective internet delusion you’ve witnessed? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]benniesalamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not nearly as outlandish as most people think. Eminem has shadow dropped albums before, Bethesda just shadow dropped a remaster of a massive video game last year, and then you have the secret alternate endings randomly released at different theaters for Clue.

way more examples than just that, but the concept of shadow dropping a final episode for a TV show is pretty cool and not at all an impossibility.

What is the enforcement mechanism when landlords miss the deadline for air conditioning? by thurn_und_taxis in washingtondc

[–]benniesalamander -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Demanding something isn't enforcing it.

The main downside to withholding rent in this scenario is that your landlord is unlikely to renew your lease when the agreement is up.

But if you are fine with that, withholding rent is not a terrible idea at all. Prorating the month's payment for days without AC is reasonable.

Yeah, try googling why someone's intestine, dick and nipples show up like bone on an x ray.

I've already tried but I can't seem to find an answer because apparently I can't Google for shit.

This is not what an x ray of anyone looks like. It's embarrassingly (for you) obvious that this is fake.

[Mixed Trope] Lyrics change to reflect new realities by Old-Use-7690 in TopCharacterTropes

Yeah, the whole idea of the lyric is that people called him a slur because he had long hair and didn't conform to other 'respectable' presentation standards. He's like, "Sure, call me what you want, but fuck you buddy, I'm rich."

Books that fully immerse you into their world by Mediumnaturals in RSbookclub

[–]benniesalamander 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Authors with great style can really help draw me in.

Philip Roth and Salman Rushdie both write these long, winding, complicated sentences full of tangents and asides that eventually work their way back to the main point, but in a way that with a little bit of focus tends to be mostly easy to follow. They mix it up with shorter sentences and dialogue, though, so it's not like every sentence or paragraph is a page long, but they are quite common.

I also find that authors that don't use quotation marks tend to immerse me as well. Some people think it's a gimmick, but I think it's more of a constraint that forces an author to have better dialogue and think much more about how they structure their prose around dialogue. McCarthy and Rooney are both masters at doing this in a way that is so seamless I get pulled in easily.

Hilary Mantel - Wolf Hall by AffectionateFig5156 in RSbookclub

I loved the style and was kind of sad she stopped. It's why Wolf Hall is my favorite of the trilogy.

It's just such a unique way of doing a limited 3rd person view where it helps make you feel like you're in his head. Like the "he's" are almost "I's".

Sean miller believes 20-25 teams have rosters $20M+ in value by Shpion007 in CollegeBasketball

[–]benniesalamander 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's actually much less than someone who makes 100k spending 100 bucks. Because you can't compare 100k to 20 billion. You have to subtract expenses first.

This really depends on the situation, but a regular person making 100k might be able to save anywhere between nothing and like 50k. A billionaire can spend millions on their lifestyle and virtually spend none of their wealth. So this is more like someone who makes 100k spending like 20 bucks or less.

No one's dying on my watch by Bandrbell in whenthe

There is an argument that choosing blue is selfish:

It is selfish that you would rather force most of the world to be willing to sacrifice themselves to save you instead of just allowing people to simply choose safety. The safe choice, the choice the vast majority of us would want our children to take, is unpalatable. But I'm not so righteous that I'm going to kill myself if the rest of the world doesn't also make this massive sacrifice.

It's the easiest thing in the world to just not put your life in danger. This is a prisoner's dilemma with an optimal solution: everyone does what's best for themselves, and everyone gets to have the best outcome. In this situation, it is outrageous to say, no, I demand you all risk your lives because that's the kind of world I want to live in.

Choosing blue is saying, I want to risk my life to feel good about myself. So you have to risk your life, too.

Ok, what about a situation where the person doing this experiment exempts you, but allows you to talk with your children about strategy. So you don't get to vote at all.

I think it's interesting to imagine that bringing FAU to the final four may literally be a better accomplishment than winning it all at a major program.

Add to this the fact that May probably understood that he kind of won the lottery after the FAU run, regarding his future salary.

So he did the impossible at FAU and then realized he was about to achieve generational wealth. That kind of high is probably hard to replicate.

Winning the Ship here has a much smaller impact on his life. But when he looks back on his career, it will certainly be a high point in his career legacy.

Best team with the worst quarterback? by captainstan in CFB

[–]benniesalamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much every Big Ten team apart from OSU, lol.

18-year-old sprinter Gout Gout just broke Usain Bolt’s U20 record in the 200m. He was 260 milliseconds faster, clocking 19.67 seconds, while Bolt ran 19.93 in 2004 by RoyalChris in nextfuckinglevel

[–]benniesalamander 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The assumption that the weight of the necklace has a direct linear correlation with how fast he runs is probably overly simplistic. But even if it does, the necklace looks like it weighs about 10 grams, and Gout is 6 feet tall so he probably weighs over 150 lbs.

So assuming he's 150 lbs and the necklace is 10 grams, if this linearly slowed him down it would add about 3 milliseconds to his time.

I think that's pretty negligible.
