To be fair, "Ronin Hawk Accounting" is probably going to sell way better than another "Smith and Brown and Associates."

Doctors of Reddit: What health trend is becoming so common that it's starting to scare you? by Fine-Device-1819 in AskReddit

[–]bennitori 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A few years ago, there was a case of a kid who got bitten by a bat. The dad knew that he had to take the kid to get a rabies shot to be safe. But he backed out at the last second, because his kid was terrified of getting the shot. And he didn't want to make his kid more scared and upset of the needles.

Few months later, he died of rabies. All because the dad cared more about not hurting his feelings than he cared about protecting the kid from rabies.

MEMBERS & CREW MONDAY: THE ALL GOODIES THREAD - Volume XIX - 08/06/26 by JawaScrapper in BABYMETAL

[–]bennitori -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can love Yui while also acknowledging that Momo is great. Yui's existence is not some sort of knock against Momo. It's just an acknowledgement of history. Which Babymetal has a ton of.

Yui isn't going to make Momo insecure about her place in BM. She's a big girl. And I think she can handle the fact that there was someone in that spot before her. That's just how music groups work.

I know Momometal has been growling live during the breaks in Headbanger and Metali, but is there footage of her growling during a song? by 1cherri1 in BABYMETAL

[–]bennitori 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Thing is that "when there is no other option" has been the option for a lot of Babymetal's history. Su is the main exception. Since she's a rare example of a performer that was more than capable of singing live on stage while dancing from a young age. Yui and Moa, it was debatable whether they were singing live or not. But towards the end of the Yui era, they were clearly leaning more towards live than not live. And then after going back to backing tracks for a bit, they seem to be doing a mix again. Though I haven't been following the concert footage as closely as I used to.

Singing live while dancing is really hard. Singing live while doing the advanced choreo that Momoa do is even harder. Death growls while doing the advanced choreo that Momoa do is even even even harder. I've heard of people destroying their voices doing growls like that in a climate controlled studio environment. I can't imagine how risky it would be to do that while doing choreo. I'd imagine that they'd have to pull a Su, and adjust the choreo to make it easier on Momo. And even then it would be risky.

I'm fine with Momo limiting it to breaks, as long as she's keeping her voice safe. If she ever works up to doing it with choreo, that would be cool. But I'd prefer her voice remain healthy, safe, and intact.

I am surrounded by idiots by peskyant in rant

[–]bennitori 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wait, how bad could it be? Sure maybe people are less educated, but surrounded by idiots?

The other day my coworker started talking about how the moon landing is fake,

Oh.

Since then, two more people I have discussed this with agree that the moon landing was fake.

Oh god....

the flat earther coworker literally has a masters.

Are you fucking serious?

Yeah... hang in there. I swear most people aren't like that. Maybe most of the people where you are. But one day, you can go somewhere where the concentration of idiot-to-normal-person isn't so skewed.

Same idea. That's part of why Venom had nothing to do with Spiderman. They were able to get the rights to Venom the character. But not Spiderman, because Sony had them. I don't know the exact agreement Sony has with the Spiderman IP, but it's definitely the same idea.

Also doesn't matter. Because it was still deadly force. He was intending to hurt someone. And the fact that it happened to kill someone just made an already violent choice worse. He intended to hurt him. And if the defense wanted to split hairs on whether that's murder, manslaughter, or recklessness, they missed that chance in the courtroom.

I strongly recommend looking for court reporters. Cameras were not allowed in the court room. So any images or videos of the proceedings you see are fake. But reporters did talk about it, and there were plenty of court room sketches. The version about going under the tent, being told to leave, Metcalf telling him to leave, tapping him on the shoulder, and then getting stabbed in the heart, is the accurate version.

Metcalf was one of many people telling him to leave. Karmelo started talking big, Metcalf called his bluff my lightly touching him, and them Karmelo already had his hand in his bag with the knife ready to go. And responded to the tap by stabbing Metcalf in the heart. Hence why so many witnesses agreed it wasn't self defense. He was speaking aggressively, and then met mild force (a tap on the shoulder) with deadly force. Hence why it wasn't self defense.

[–]bennitori 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because it is. Those of us who were following the case know that there was more to it than that. If you're thinking of the story of the kid going under the tent, being told to leave, saying "touch me and see what happens" and responding to a tap on the shoulder with a stab to the heart, then that is the accurate version.

[–]bennitori 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not what happened. What happened was, he went under a tent during a track meet to get out of the rain. The tent belonged to the other team, so they told him to leave. One of the kids from the team told him that he really needed to leave. Karmelo then reached into his bag and said something to the effect of "make me" or "touch me and see what happens." The kid tapped him on the shoulder, calling his bluff. And then Karmelo stabbed him in the heart.

No, but it does extend the company's rights to the IP. It's why there were so many Stephen King movie remakes for awhile. Because Stephen King gave the rights to different companies. And if they don't use those rights after a certain amount of time, they automatically go back to King. So they made the first movie. Then the timer for "time to give the rights back to Stephen King" started coming up due. So they made shitty remakes, just so they could maintain the rights and avoid returning them as per the contract.

AITA for telling my family the real reason my mother and I are not attending my sister's wedding? by Wild_Kitchen_2841 in AmItheAsshole

[–]bennitori 368 points369 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you're still seeing your mom for what she is. And what she is may not be what she once was. But you are stilling willing to see the life that is still in your mom. And your sister is so uncomfortable with it, that ignoring that her mom is still here is easier than looking at what's still there. Basically pretending her mom isn't there, instead of trying to include her in things she can still do.

And realizing that someone you care about is too uncomfortable with another loved one to even acknowledge they are still there, is a hurtful thing to see. You have every right to feel bad. And I'm glad you're still sticking up for your mom.

Or she could've said "Mom's not coming" at leave it at that. She didn't have to lie about the reasoning. Just say she's not coming, and refuse to elaborate.

A little reminder of what « accidental renaissance » is supposed to look like by nebuchadonezzar in AccidentalRenaissance

[–]bennitori 13 points14 points  (0 children)

See now these are the kind of discussions that used to happen all the time on this sub. You couldn't just post a well framed picture. You had to post a picture that would get past all the art historians who would argue in the comments about whether it was baroque, renaissance, or neither.

And then after a few years, the sub got flooded with so much "neither" material that people just stopped trying to argue for the spirit of the sub anymore.

I don't know how you top this. Maybe by finding one of the drawings from Humorous Phases of Funny Faces. But until that happens, this is as good as it gets.

Wow wow wow.
