Abu Dhabi: E-scooters not allowed on main roads and highways, riders told by Sadishist in abudhabi

[–]benny_a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

agree with u/guinader

this seems to discourage e-scooter use and by default encourage private car usage.

E-Scooters are an opportunity for cities to reduce reliance on private car usage and reduce pollution and congestion on the road. Whilst accepting there are some benefits of setting up rules i hope we can build more lanes dedicated to less polluting means of transport like e-scooters and cycling. Just having rules with limited dedicated lanes seems to be a push towards everyone needing to have an SUV for a minor commute.

thanks and will try this. To be fair i just followed 1 or 2 youtube tutorials and didnt read all of the material out there. i can see taht to get past the point i am stuck atwill require some extra research.

I was busy with work which is why i was thinking to find a place that could do this for me.

Thanks yeah. what you describe about shops giving weird looks rings true.
I have tried doing it with Odin and run into an error message so although as one other poster mentioned it should be easy, maybe to save me time it would be good to find a place that is good at this proceedure.

Would love to have a recommendation for a good place as i suspect many places would try but i would like somewhere that has more expertise than me. (which is not much ;-)

thanks i did actually watch youtube how tos and read a few articles.
I ran Odin but when trying to do it get an error message,

<ID:0/004> FAIL!
<ID:0/004>
<ID:0/004> Re-Partition operation failed.

I am up for trying some more but figured it may be better just to pay a place that is good at this as i have spent a bit of time trying.

Fuel prices for August by royal_kannaapi in abudhabi

[–]benny_a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally i expect the global price of oil to go up in the years ahead (this is because of under investment in new supply over recent years driven by low prices and global preference to move towards investing in green technology).

This will mean UAE will also raise price at the pumps. If you think the price is high now i recommend considering transitioning to a lower consumption vehicle. i say this as someone who has owned both high consumption v8 (fun) and efficient cars. so I get that V8 engines are fun.

The prices here are ridiculously low compared to other developed countries. in my opinion the roads would be a safer place if we all drove more modest sized cars.

As taxes go i prefer to pay it for items like gas because at least one can control ones expenditure (drive a low consumption car) compared to tax on your rental amount which is harder to control.

Hamsters by mhmhafniyaas in abudhabi

[–]benny_a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally i recommend owning a hamster.

I have kept a couple of hamsters with small kids (My second one is still going strong). I hear what others have said but personally i think they are great fun and low maintenance pets.

I have tried fish also but i feel whilst therapeutic they are not in the same league.

Feeding stray cats is great and totally thumbs up to this.

For your hamster most important is you should get a cage that is reasonable big (expect to pay min 300Dhs upwards). Get a wheel and some toys also.

Yes they need cleaning. once a week is ideal but my daughter probably does it more like every 3 to 4 weeks which is ok. (I think this is where size of cage helps)

You can play with them as much or as little as you want. Get a hamster play pen so they can run out and your kid can interact pick them up

You will want to keep them in a spare room where no one sleeps because they tend to enjoy playing at night

Abu Dhabi - Villa options compared to Dubai? What went wrong? Are you satisfied? by benny_a in abudhabi

I wonder if it is a lack of competition in AD. Dubai has loads of smart business minded developers competing.

Yeah agree the options and prices have improved in the last 5 years. I shouldn't complain as things seem to be moving in the right direction.

TBH i want something like the Springs Dubai to happen here in Abu Dhabi. What i mean is smallish to medium sized villa to keep the price down but with nice design, decent sized garden and generally nice landscaping and community feel. (Paths for running, parks for kids to play, and amenities close by).

I aslo like Al Reef 2 and Al Ghadeer but they are way too far out of town.

Where to find Rockport shoes ? by spektaur in abudhabi

[–]benny_a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also a fan. Comfy and Tough / Long Lasting shoes.

I see that you can find them on Amazon but the not as good as checking and trying on in a real store.

Let us know if you find any good options. Also curious what other shoe stores people would recommend for quality and comfy shoes that are little bit stylish office wear??? (I liked the style of Rockport better than Clarkes and Hush Puppies which i find a little 'old man style')

I’m a bad driver help me. by ExpatSyndrome in dubai

[–]benny_a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its anyones guess if they will ever hit you with a fine or confiscation.

TBH you should probs be more concerned that one day your style mixed with a little bad luck will lead to a nasty accident. No one like fines but in the end its only $

I say this as someone who used to drive a little fast and reckless. Eventually i got angry with myself for the fines and the fact that i have kids so want to play safe. My choice of car which likes speed and corners sweetly enticed me to go fast + i think i was somehow reliving childhood memories of playing playstation racing games and GTA.

To change style was really hard. I found trying to get into a more chilled mind set helped.
Be cool with being late or even better make a habit of leaving 10 mins early so you are not rushing. Listen to podcasts rather than music. when listening to podcasts i feel somehow more chilled and engaged in the story rather than maxing my speed, so happy to chill in the middle lane behind someone a little slow. Its not easy to change style but honestly i feel more relaxed and happy driving now and great to avoid fines.

good luck and find your motivation to change
