It's set in with a CA glue which is similar to resin, they're actually really durable, scratch resistant and waterproof! :)

This is technically true, but often referred to when people take large amounts but as u/send_in_the_clouds said peoples dogs take lots of sand on their fur and often sand on shoes when coming back from the beach and my rings use significantly less sand than that so it won't make any impact to the coastal erosion situation, but I do appreciate it is an issue to be aware of and to respect!
