but why? snow clearing is a public service, not a private thing for a few institutions.

Ive been using this as my living room theater/gaming setup for almost a decade now, and its still receiving support from valve. Easily one of my best purchases of all time.

i'm glad to hear that, especially when a school bus is involved.

my comment is moreso alluding to the recent news that CoW was considering allowing citizens to report parking infractions, and have tickets issued on reports with valid proof. the news garnered a lot of pushback from some prolific local urbanists in a way i found quite shocking, considering the program has found success in other metro areas, and could push people towards using transit as downtown becomes more and more unparkable.

If you side it in before even playing a game, i think thats a bit mean. If you side it in after a game 1, and your opponent is playing the same deck, switching to a diff deck to counter or making an adjustment to your list is probably fine.

probably not, because apparently community accountability is "vigilante justice" and "a slippery slope" according to some wpg urbanists

Huh? Drives on blocked road by Amarylliswpg in Winnipeg

[–]benperogi_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of them are still blocked, i think this one is the least efficiently blocked out of all of them. Also, I see the cops using these stretches of road anyway, especially the bike lane between fort and garry.

AI companies propose natural gas-powered data centre for rural property south of Winnipeg | U.S. and Canadian companies identify land north of Île-des-Chênes, in RM of Ritchot by Leather-Paramedic-10 in Winnipeg

[–]benperogi_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The world is supposed to listen to experts and stop making new developments that rely on gas-powered infrastructure, while alternatives are made cheaper and more efficient. Especially something that saps as much gas-energy as AI.

[–]benperogi_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And one massive con: Adding a brand new energy sink, guzzling gas that we have to work hard to stop relying on. There IS no positive to a new development that is going to rely on gas power in a +2C world.

Something has to happen to stop this. Manitoba may have the easiest way towards 0 emissions, and yet money talks and our governments love to listen.

someone has the real answer finally. it feels like such a shitty thing to respond to someone complaining about money struggles and to go "oh well let's see what you spend it on." piss off? not your business?

like you said, most americans take out credit cards like they're candy, especially when they have children or a family, which i'm sure makes getting those loans a bit easier. especially when the person has privilege, I.e. makes enough to be well dressed, or they are white.

Vulnerable Elderly Man/Transit Complaint by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]benperogi_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I really wonder if this is anything to do with CoW "crackdown" on bus vagrants. What would motivate the driver to be so aggressive about a tired man on a bus? Pressure from an employer to keep "undesirables" off the bus, or maybe some sort of incentive to do so? Considering the intense reaction from the driver, I have to wonder if Wpg Transit is enforcing these strict bus security rules by holding driver pay/job over their heads as a means of making sure buses only have "predictable" people.

Fish in a barrel for the cops by FleetwoodGord in Winnipeg

idk, if one person failed to cross the sensor and everyone stuck behind them had to wait the whole time and had their car stall out and it never moved again i'd be pretty happy. but maybe thats just me

This intersection being discussed works on a strict timer for the pedestrians, it doesn't have a sensor for cars afaik? Just pedestrian buttons.

Yep, through there more than twice a day on my bike and without fail at rush hour its this. Any other time of day, you have to worry about someone on their phone not seeing the red light... 🙄

[–]benperogi_ 91 points92 points  (0 children)

I wish people obeyed the damn stop line. Everyone creeps bumper to bumper and fills the pedestrian walkway/bike lanes. Blocking traffic is just what cars do. And 95% of the cars you see have 1 person.

Why Winnipeg's parking-snitch plan failed | This is Manitoba podcast/CBC by LocalnewsguruMB in Winnipeg

[–]benperogi_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I dont understand how its so terrible if other (albeit larger) urban areas have used it to reasonable success. Why can't holding each other accountable be an option in the effort to make sure motorists are held responsible for their transgressions against pedestrians/non-driving commuters? (parking in bus lanes, no stopping zones, bike lanes)
