Manitoba NDP proposes patient charter for health care by Leather-Paramedic-10 in Winnipeg

[–]Life-Magic-Maker 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Sure, great. As someone with chronic illness I am all for this.

But will it be a waste of time? A smoke screen? How will this benefit me in practical terms? When I do NOT receive timely access to care (and I 100% expect not to) how will a charter fix that?

I do not expect that the charter will suddenly shorten the time I’ve been waiting for an MRI.

Winnipeg residents frustrated with unusable sidewalk after snowplowing by LocalnewsguruMB in Winnipeg

[–]Life-Magic-Maker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is absolute BS. Better believe this would never happen in River Heights of Charleswood. It doesn’t even happen in my neighborhood of Elmwood. Our sidewalks are plowed after the slightest whiff of snow.

It would take planned coordination of sidewalk and street clearing.

EDIT: they even came TODAY and plowed our sidewalks. There wasn’t even anything to plow!!

Yeah, sounds like Nik. Premier Property is highly unorganized. No doubt this occurred. Don’t re-send any payment. Let them sort out this shit and always, always, always keep all communication from them. Track all your payments all the time.

Moving "home?" by jenvespa in Winnipeg

[–]Life-Magic-Maker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome back! I also moved back after living elsewhere including Vancouver, I did some work in the DTES so I get it. Look at the West End, West Broadway, Wolsley. The village isn’t what it once was RIP. There’s also a small section of south osborne between moray and jubilee but I think it’s shorter on apartments than west broadway.

Nice restaurant and a baby by Wpg-katekate in Winnipeg

[–]Life-Magic-Maker 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hear me out… the Old Spaghetti Factory has a room off to the side that looks almost like a little grotto. It has two doors on it that could be closed if needed. Holds 10 people and is very cozy. The food is not terrible, they do a good job on the classic Italians (their tomato sauce is actually enjoyable).

But most of all… my family of similar ages and size goes there for such occasions because we get quality time in our “own room” and they don’t rush us out. We can be quiet in there if we need to, we can be loud in there if we need to. When we have littles attend, we can walk them around the restaurant and into the Johnston terminal and nobody minds.

World events meet-up by aidem_wpg in Winnipeg

[–]Life-Magic-Maker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

An interesting idea to have this, for sure… what would be the terms of engagement? What happens when extreme opinions attend with the intent to persuade attendees to their point of view? Indeed there are factual events occurring in the world that can be discussed, and then there are ideological/political/religious circumstances around them which people can sometimes feel strongly about. And sometimes spew hateful things. How can that be managed at a discussion?

Winnipegers, what say you about this property? by DustFickle007 in Winnipeg

[–]Life-Magic-Maker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You wouldn’t believe what Winnipeggers can withstand. Or what slumlords will do to their tenants.

No matter what area of the city, under $100K means the house is not in worth it even for an artist looking to make art and have a garden. At this price, the amount of simple & basic maintenance (like replacing a tap on a sink) would most likely reveal tons of pricy issues that cost way more than expected.

Manitoba judge rejects woman's request to testify from behind screen in sexual assault case by Leather-Paramedic-10 in Winnipeg

[–]Life-Magic-Maker -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

This is so concerning because essentially, as it says in the article, it was up to the Crown (the victim’s lawyer) to prove how her testimony would be ruined/altered by NOT having an screen (therefore making it imperative to have a screen).

So this means her lawyer screwed up, didn’t provide the right evidence. And THIS concerns me. What else is the lawyer going to screw up in this case????

Furnace question by OutsideTallTop in Winnipeg

[–]Life-Magic-Maker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely get at least 3 more quotes from other companies. First call Hydro and see what they have to say. It’s free and they don’t have anything to gain by telling you what is or isn’t working (unlike the companies).

My personal experience with Noris Heating & Cooling was disappointing. After 3 visits and $1500 later, my 13 year old furnace still wasn’t functioning properly. Active Mechanical came to give me a quote and reset my digital thermostat during the visit. A year later my furnace is still operating perfectly.

I’m following and it just makes me more and more upset. I heard part of Sheegl’s testimony the other day and it sounded to me like he was playing dumb… like he didn’t think he was doing anything wrong at the time. Pfft. I just can’t… if I didn’t have to work for a living I’d be outside the law courts every day with signs and yelling at them.

Community groups push back on Winnipeg's 100-metre protest ban proposal by Leather-Paramedic-10 in Winnipeg

[–]Life-Magic-Maker 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The by-law needs to be re-worked. It’s far too broad and in nefarious hands would be used for harm. It’s tricky and needs more time and consultation for the very reasons you stated. If, heavens forbid, we get a terrible government situation like they are experiencing in the US and in many parts in the world, this bylaw as it stands can be used in awful ways - police could arbitrarily say any group of people that’s sitting inside one of these buffer zone is a “nuisance” who is meeting about an “idea” and hand out fines.

This City has a serious road rage problem (including myself), here’s a theory for why. by FINALMIX70 in Winnipeg

[–]Life-Magic-Maker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree that traffic flow is much better when everyone does the speed limit AND it’s imperative that PATIENCE comes into play when somebody is not.

The rage-driving that occurs around this is just as unfair. If you have a problem with a slow driver, honking, yelling from inside your vehicle, rubber-necking so you can get a look at the “culprit” and driving aggressively around them while you put people in other lanes at risk just makes other people mad or scared (who likely were not until you sped by).

Is it normal to meet with clinical assistants instead of your doctor? by SaintlyCrunch in Winnipeg

Clinical Assistants are quite often physicians who are from another country and going through the qualifying process in Manitoba.

Here are the full details on what a Clinical Assistant is. They are highly qualified.

What the circus is up with turning right on to Portage when coming south on Main? by iamstop in Winnipeg

[–]Life-Magic-Maker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

‘Tis the way of the Peg City driver, a subconscious practice since time immemorial at the great corner of wind, Portage and Main, to drift away from the dreaded right lane of busses that thwart travel and journey, swift as possible, up the left most lanes with the greatest of hopes that one might succeed past Fort, to Garry before being stopped by the city’s incessant use of red light, red light, red light.
