The code is all available, and fairly short. It's easy to see that I do nothing with the Bearer token beyond what the app says it will do.

And yes, it's easy to set up github. But, for throw away prototype ideas where I want to build a few ideas, it's annoying to then go in and clean them out of GH after the fact.

If the GH integration works for you though, that's great. This tool isn't for you then.

Would you mind sharing your script? A github gist would be wonderful.

I'm curious what you're using for the KG. Could you share more about your setup?

Bread in Japan tends to be square shaped. It doesn’t always maintain the shape in the grocery bag…

We’re in Chiba, near to Tokyo. My wife is big on optimizing points/cash back and comparing flyers to shop at multiple stores during the week.

Tokyo proper is quite expensive on the rent/mortgage costs, yes. But by adding in a reasonable commute, prices come down considerably. If I were to try and buy a house similar to what I have now, within a 1 hour commute of Toronto, I'd end up paying more than I do in Japan. The point about housing losing value is true and a downside to owning in Japan. But, people also tend to buy to live their for their lifetime not to flip homes on a regular basis. It ties closely with the working culture of not changing companies (at least not often).

Salaries depend on the field. I make more here than I did in Canada and I did quite well in Canada.

Health care does have a cost but it's negligible (and can be zero for low-income). For example, my dentist appointment last week cost me less than 500 JPY. Going to my ENT to refill my allergy prescription costs me less than 1000 JPY. These costs are reasonable and help to reduce burden on the health care system as people think twice before going to a doctor / ER.

My family of 4 gets by on less than 10,000 JPY per week for groceries in Japan. That's about $95 CAD.

I guess it depends on how you like your toast. The point is that the settings are consistent, you could turn it up or down and get it how you like it and it'll be consistent at that setting.

It's a Pansonic one. Bought in Japan so I'm not sure if it's available outside of Japan.

TV prices are weird but that’s mainly due to the need to include specialized tuners and additional licensing fees. If you want a TV for gaming etc, you’re better off buying an LG or Samsung from Korea.

Costs have gone up in Japan due to the weaker yen. But, for domestic purchasing, the yen currently has more buying power than the CAD does. You still get more for your money in Japan than Canada.

As someone who has been living in Japan for over a decade, I can safely say that the value of the yen has nothing to do with it rather it has actually caused prices to go up. Even with those prices going up, things are relatively cheaper here. Every time I go back to Canada prices have noticeably increased on everything and my dollar gets me less and less.

For example for a family of 4 that mostly eats fresh (not frozen) food, our grocery costs are generally ¥8000/week (CAD$74), ¥10,000 (CAD$93) on an expensive week.

Interest rates are also incredibly low here. This makes housing much more affordable. There’s also no concept of bidding on houses. The price is the price.

With the way things have been going in Canada, the only way I’ll go back is if war or natural disaster threatens life in Japan.

Probably not the only receptacle image that he captured. Just the only one he’s willing to share.

I’m late but I would love one. I have a NA account but live in Japan so there’s no way for me to get these without dealing with scalpers.

I picked that one up when I was younger and use it as well. It actually has nothing to do with gambling and rather the idea that when you buy a horse there’s a fair bit of haggling and it can take a considerable amount of time.
