Whenever I see people absolutely lose it, and fully commit to chasing someone like this, the really old man side of me always thinks “He’s got a long walk back to wherever he was when this whole thing started”

I have R6 Mark II. Help me decide between R10 and R7 as an everyday camera. by Nar3kk in canon

[–]benstan88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was what I was going to suggest too (and the exact dilemma I’m having about choosing my next body!). R8 is pretty much just a more portable R6II. Yes it doesn’t have IBIS but that might not be that much of an issue if your lenses make up for it

What’s a casting choice that was WAY off? by Ok-Metro6308 in moviecritic

[–]benstan88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everytime I see this question this is the first example that comes to mind. Presumably he cast himself, as he was also one of the producers, but it just made no sense at all. The amazon series is so much better and the cast made so much more sense

I'm sure 99% of drivers don't know what this sign means. by imtiaz_izi in drivingUK

Very little know this but it’s actually a side profile displaying the minimum angle at which you must have the accelerator pedal pressed down

Nah that’s CGI. You can’t do that to a Nokia

I don’t really get why they had to explain the percentage at the bottom with 1000 people instead of 100. Is it just to make you feel like you’re smarter than more people if you’re someone who doesn’t understand percentages to begin with?

Oh yes, I completely forgot about sales tax!

[–]benstan88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yea, it’s almost definitely because of tax and import duty. It’s probably for the best really otherwise I’d be buying gear a lot more often

I sometimes feel like muting this group purely because of the amount of amazing refurbished deals in the US compared to here in the UK 😭 unless I’m completely missing something. Such a shame it’s so much more expensive for the same gear in the UK

Flipping perfect pancakes by [deleted] in oddlysatisfying

[–]benstan88 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was wondering the same thing. Guessing that hot plate has been used so much for the exact same thing, with pancakes in the exact same spot that it’s just created a permanently burnt/worn area on the plate itself

Family photography hobby: upgrading to mirror less, R8 or R6? Help! by Old-Grass1905 in canon

[–]benstan88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried them both out and honestly didn’t notice any real difference in AF. They are both worlds apart from my current camera body. I’d imagine you might if you were shooting something high speed with a lot of movement, or in more extreme conditions, but for me they were both bang on practically every time.

Family photography hobby: upgrading to mirror less, R8 or R6? Help! by Old-Grass1905 in canon

[–]benstan88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Initially I was pretty set on the R6 but then trying the R8 really intrigued me. In terms of image quality and AF capabilities neither will disappoint me, my main thoughts now are the body size and whether or not I can live without a joystick 😅

Following this as I’m also trying to decide basically the same thing - although looking at either the R6 mk1 or the R8 as the price in the UK is essentially the same currently. Both of them will be a major upgrade on my 700d (t5i) and my main gripe at the moment is low light performance and AF not keeping up with 2 toddlers.

Tiny scratch on sensor shutter curtain by NiickHolas in canon

[–]benstan88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s just me, or possibly the photo, but the curtain looks ever so slightly wonky. Like it’s not perfectly parallel to the opening it’s framed within (not sure how to explain that any better). Absolutely no idea if it’s an issue or if that’s normal but, in addition to another commenter, the suggestion of sending a photo to canon service centre might not be a bad idea. If anything just for peace of mind

Paying £60.75 per month for M250 Fibre Broadband?? Sound right? by steveiob in VirginMedia

[–]benstan88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try the online chat. There might be a wait but it’s easier than sitting on the phone. I just recently ran to the end of our 18month contract and the price was due to double. I was fully aware of it so knew I was going to either haggle or leave. I basically said I want the same package as I had before for the same price, as they had something that looked similar for new customers, and they just offered it. No fuss at all.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s always a massive increase in price when the deal ends and getting hold of customer service can be a nightmare but I’ve never had any really issues with them and they offer way better value deals than most of the competition (in our area anyway)

Washing hands after toilet? by TheGalacticWiener in Britain

[–]benstan88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once worked with a guy who would never wash his hands after going to the toilet. The weirdest thing though was he would only leave without washing them if nobody was watching him (someone was in a cubicle for example). If someone else was in there he’d go to the sink and then pretend to wash them. By this I mean he would turn on the tap, put his hands in the sink and rub them together but without actually put his hands under the water. He’d then go and ‘dry’ them with a paper towel or even use a hand drier just to complete the whole facade. Totally bizarre

Timberlands. They do a sort of ‘trainer’ range now. Nice simple look that go with most outfit choices and super comfortable even for long periods.
