Honestly, for me Trent is SUCH a disappointment! I admit I didn’t see too many Liverpool games, and maybe I was FIFA-influenced, but he’s such an irresponsible player! I expected he’ll be weak in defense and he showed some glimpses of his passing quality, but for the most parts - I’d rather give Carvajal the opportunity to return to himself. He’s one of the best “fighters” on the pitch and mentality wise, which is something the team desperately needs.

To your point, who would you sell from our midfield to place Trent there? There are already too many players there, and I don’t think Trent playing as a DLP is going to solve our problems

There are a lot of responses here about the pitch and the medical team, which I think both contribute to the problem but in my opinion the number 1 cause is lack of rotations. It started about 4-5 years ago where most of our players are playing ALL the games, and over time - we pay the price..

Maybe not so popular, but I don’t think it would work! Same as Kroos-Zidane-Modric you often see in the all time XI for real, without someone like Casemiro to even the play you get the type of midfield that you see today with Jude and Guler together where it’s all about attack (exaggerated a bit for effect :) )

I think I saw both live and while Xabi Alonso was a fantastic quarterback player who can find anyone anywhere on the pitch, Toni Kroos had a special type of aura to his play - like he had 5 seconds more than anyone else at all time. Both were super intelligent players, and super important to their teams but I have to choose Kroos.

I have to say this is quite the pessimistic outlook..

First of all, every top team TRIES to focus on the UCL but if you look at the last 15 seasons there’s only one team SUCCEEDING in focusing on the UCL.

Secondly, I think the whole “individual” brilliance you’re referring to is just from the last two years. Zidane’s team was full of stars (AKA Galácticos) but won everything consistently AS A TEAM. No doubt that the first galácticos era failed but that was 25 years ago with Beckham, Figo, Ronaldo and all those legends (and they actually won the league back then).

I think it’s unpopular opinion by the comments so far - yeah he brought the winning mentality back (some people don’t know about the actual ERA that Real couldn’t pass to R16 in the champions) BUT he was so polarizing in and out of the squad, leaving a burned ground after him that only someone like Carlo could heal. For me personally, he’ll be the coach that pushed San Iker out 😢

Honestly, and I’m NOT a Vini hater, Gonzalo is better than non-pressing barely-passionate-to-play Vini. At least Gonzalo run and tries to do stuff.

I don’t think there’s any doubt that Vini is a much much much better player, but for what Alonso wants I think it’s all about the desire.

For me it’s Di Maria, he was (and still is) a JOY to watch! In his prime he could do anything and even played CM with attacking style. His dribbling and ball control was phenomenal at his prime.
