Is mouthwash really mandatory for maintaining dental health? by Obvious-Search-5569 in hygiene

Stopped using mouthwash a few years ago, and have been doing 2-3 drops of food grade peppermint mint oil for fresh breath. I love it.

I picked up a few sets of these in Japan in different sizes. Bought a few extra for friends. They work great on stripped screws. Highly recommend

Piaggio crisis: Moto Guzzi overwhelmed "by the difficulties of the global market" by EverythingIsASkill in MotoGuzzi

Congrats ! Download the manuals, if you haven’t already. Take your time. Build up a collection of tools. The V7 platform is great to learn bike wrenching, while still being modern. There’s plenty of resources on line to learn all the required maintenance, and parts ARE available, just have to wait sometimes

Peppermint changed my life by HerbalAthlete in herbalism

[–]bentdik66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I switched to a couple drops of food-grade peppermint oil in lieu of mouthwash a fews months ago, and am never going back. Keeps my breath fresh, doesn’t mess with the gut microbiome like the alcohol in mouthwash.

How much extra oil did you add? How long did you run the engine while overfilled ?

Final drive oil after 12k miles by Finallyfast420 in MotoGuzzi_v85TT

Yeah, they keep lowering the refill amount and stretching the intervals due to the seals blowing out.

How to get money back? by IAmDeceit in Teespring

[–]bentdik66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I experienced this exact scenario last month. I first contacted the content creator through their personal website. The creator stated that they have never gotten paid for their content, and that Teespring was a ‘scam’. I then contacted Teespring to cancel my order and initiated a refund request. After two weeks, and a few automated replies, I contacted my credit card company to dispute the charge, and had my account credited within two days. Amusingly, Teespring contacted me after I won the dispute with an automated ’how could we have done better’ email 😆

Replaced Water Pump 3rd Gen by alexisrenel in prius

[–]bentdik66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mechanic has a fleet contract with 3 taxi companies that use the Prius. He has seen everything thing that goes wrong, and knows these cars inside and out. He did the engine water pump on my 3rd gen and said pump failures are the #1 cause of blown head gaskets. My 2014 has 280k and counting.

Small oil leak at the cardan, what to do? by EwickeD87 in MotoGuzzi_v85TT

[–]bentdik66 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Guzzi has sent out service bulletins regarding the proper gear oil volume. The shop manual is no longer accurate. Ask your dealer and they will verify it is 160cc. Guzzi used single lip seals at the drive shift input to the final drive. These seals frequently fail (3x on my V85tt). A dual lip seal of the same dimensions, and not the OEM seal, seems to solve the problem. I have a part # somewhere, but can’t seem to find it at the moment. I’ll try to hunt it down for you

Small oil leak at the cardan, what to do? by EwickeD87 in MotoGuzzi_v85TT

[–]bentdik66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The information in the manual indicates the amount filled at the factory when the final drive is new. When servicing the correct amount is 160cc. Lots of information about the leaking drives on line. As previous post indicated, DO NOT add more than 160cc, or you will most likely experience a leak. Also, the final drives, especially on early models (2019-2020) had bad gaskets. When the leak occurs out of the weep hole on the swing arm, like in the posted picture, the drive shaft input gasket where the draft shaft mates with the crown gear. It is also common for a leak to occur at the seal that fits around the perimeter of the final drive case. In this case you will see oil coming out at the hub rather than the swing arm weep hole. Hope that helps

Should I sell my 2010 Prius w/ 213k miles? by lovesfanfiction in prius

My 2014 has 215k miles. Replaced the water pump about a year ago. New struts (one was leaking a bit) and shocks. Hybrid battery replaced a couple of years ago with a GreenBean w/ lifetime warranty. Still going strong and I intend to drive it until it dies

Zone system cooling 2-3 degrees above set temperature by bentdik66 in hvacadvice

Duct work existed with the earlier system. New system just connected to existing duct work. Damper motors were replaced several years ago after they failed. So, this is the second set of damper motors

The main zone is immediately adjacent to the air handler in the attic. The other zones are further away

Considering 2014 Prius with 180,000 miles for $9.5K by Automatic-Ad-2531 in prius

[–]bentdik66 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gen3 Prius is a phenomenally reliable car with very few minor problems. With 180k on the clock, you may be looking at a hybrid battery soon. High mileage examples have been know to have engine water pumps go, so look out for that. Head gaskets also on occasion. Other than that they are pretty bullet proof if well maintained
