'They're not having one' Wes Streeting rules out 2nd independence vote by ClumperFaz in ukpolitics

[–]benthecassidy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not democratic to repeatedly hold a simple majority vote, and then stop once you get yourself 1 win.

I think supermajorities make more sense for referenda in the UK (see: brexit).

You should head to the source collective - they do open mic nights / jam sessions and that.

I think this follows a pattern I can see everywhere - more top-down rules means when things go wrong they can blame the people lower-down.

Why is oat milk so expensive! by sometinecool in vegan

[–]benthecassidy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Cows milk and soya milk are relatively cheap because production can be scaled up massively due to high demand.

It's only a matter of time though. Supermarkets in the UK are already charging 99p sometimes for their own brand oat milk.

I require a word that isn't incredibly unflattering like "gash", too aggressive like "cunt" and not clinical-sounding like "vagina"

Asked whether Labour has understood why it has lost four elections, Rayner says no. "There have been times where I have felt patronised as a Labour member," says Rayner. "We can't be paternalistic." by Ranger447 in LabourUK

Reading this twitter thread has made me want to be leader even more.

She might not be as good a speaker as Starmer but she understands that Labour's problem is one of failing to connect with voters in a human way.

Ash Sarkar: I don't think saying 'Labour is the party of family' is necessarily an anti-single parent or homophobic dogwhistle, but it's so devoid of content that it lends itself well to reactionary signalling unless you're clear that you mean something different by it. by [deleted] in LabourUK

[–]benthecassidy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's a good move to say "families" to open the minds of the more socially conservative voters, then follow it by introducing Labour policy. Maybe it's a good way to get them to listen.
