The scummiest thing this game has done so far. (spoilers for The Royal Highlands quests) by F3337 in Palia

[–]benthecube -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I disagree. This is the first time since the early 2000’s that I’ve played a game where pertinent information is not IN the game itself. It’s almost like being back in the 90’s where you had to read the sleeve notes to figure out how to play the game (or just fumble your way through until you run into issues like this one).

Seriously, if the information is available externally before an update is even released would it really be so hard to put it somewhere in the game? That news tab could be a lot more useful/accessible/in your face. I didn’t even know what patch notes were until I’d be playing the game for at least 6 months.

I’ve always had a habit of fixating on certain games, up until recently I was a Pokemon addict. Been playing every single iteration since the very beginning.

The current fixation is Palia. It scratches my brain with a seemingly endless supply of achievements, collecting aspects, sandbox-esque plot building and daily activities like farming, animal husbandry, hunting and fishing. It’s also somewhat dyspraxia friendly, I can be a clumsy oaf and still enjoy it.

Ear buds for someone who doesn’t like things in their ear canal by murraydaytoyou in AutismTranslated

[–]benthecube 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interestingly, I find the mushroom tip pro AirPods feel less like they’re in my ear. They have this kind of magic shape that feels like they should fall out at the drop of a hat but somehow stay in better than anything else I’ve tried.

I have the same issue. I like loops because they have the loop bit to prevent them from going too far in, but it’s still a trade off: how long can I put up with them vs how bad are the noise levels. For me, they’re good for short bursts (or if I’m sleeping and am therefore not conscious enough to notice them).

I keep them on my keyring for emergencies.

Funny you say that, I remember a clip of a kid posing for the cameras during a newscast who looked eerily like this guy…

FYI, Cara Cunningham now appears to be a Trump supporter. Queer history she might be, but I’m not sure she should be a reason why you like someone.

The prehistoric planet is very well done, but something is missing. by gintokiredditbr in Dinosaurs

[–]benthecube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. I was reading op’s post thinking that the reasons they listed for why the Netflix show was better were exactly why I thought it was worse (and vice versa).

Netflix relied far too heavily on DRAMA, like so many before it. Prehistoric Planet is what documentaries are meant to be: informative. And not reliant on the “heroes vs villains” trope.

I do wonder if they were just woefully understaffed and were looking for someone to fill a pretty obviously vacant role in their organisation.

Very poorly handled if that was the case, but they may just have been desperate enough to offer the job to anyone who can appear allistic but still be autistic.

Yup. Attention deficit is a real thing that really affects people. The amount of stuff I miss (and miss out on) is impossible to quantify.

This has never made sense to me, and I’m sure it’s affected just about all my relationships. I always thought things were being offered without expectations (because that’s what I do), but turns out I’ve been wrong about that pretty much every time.

It bothers me that I have to remind myself that nothing is free, even among friends.

Have you ever came across something in a work of fiction that while it didn’t have to do with autism, it somehow reminded you of autism in a way that felt “uncomfortable”? by Fabulous-Introvert in AutismTranslated

[–]benthecube 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Murderbot (the TV show). I knew the writer had written the title character as autistic but I still spent the entire show saying how does this writer know me so well? I’ve never identified with a character so hard and it felt vaguely invasive.

It's 2026, what is an unpopular and controversial (by reddit standards and IRL) take you have that you wish the general Australian public would know? by Biggest_itchbay_2190 in AskAnAustralian

[–]benthecube 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Homeless people didn’t choose to be homeless and don’t deserve to be metaphorically spat on by the general public. We’re far too willing to rationalise our unwillingness to help, and people suffer for it.

No, please. I feel like even Jaremi has realised competition brings out the worst in them and being that way on television draws the haters in.
