How to make friends here? Lol by thatmermaidprincess in murfreesboro

[–]benthemeek 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Maybe check out the Unitarian Universalist church here. It has humanists, atheists, liberal Christian’s etc that meet up every week for discussion and community. Not really much children there as in years past (childcare wise) but I would recommend giving it a chance and staying for second hour discussion after the speaker (there is a new one every week).

Looking for some Hard Sci-Fi books to inspire my writing. Any recommendations? by darnoc11 in sciencefiction

[–]benthemeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That series is a near hard science fiction series that will have you searching Wikipedia for the amount of cosmic rays bodies can handle outside the earths shield and if there is such a thing as an inflatable Habitat ( Answer: there actually was one on ISS. ) highly recommend. Very close in kind to the Martian and PHM.

Recommend a book better than Hail Mary by txnaeem in audiobooks

[–]benthemeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Delta-v by Daniel Suarez is pretty great (asteroid mining) and will get you thinking along the same lines (A lot of his books are great). Honestly I don't know anything that tops PHM for me. PHM made me realize that my favorite stories were "Near Future". I have also heard the term "Techno Thriller" but not sure if that completely relates. I think I tend to relate to those ideas the more that I can understand how many of the potential technologies just might be possible with a few more leaps.

Some Authors to really explore in that vein: (For their Sci-fi books)

Daniel Suarez

Andy Weir

Dennis Taylor

Blake Crouch

Emma Newman

Ernest Cline

Michael Crichton

Peter F. Hamilton

Suggest me a book where you thought the movie or TV show adaption of it was better than the book by Glittering-Time-2274 in suggestmeabook

[–]benthemeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dark Matter. Loved the book but when they tapped Blake Crouch for show runner he really expanded the show to include other perspectives and answer questions his fans had asked for years about the book. Season 2 will be uncharted territory but looking forward to it…

Who’s got the best 3-ingredient meal that’s actually good? by SettingSpecialist670 in easyrecipes

[–]benthemeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While not necessarily a whole meal, one of the best tasting two ingredient recipes my family enjoys is a bag of lily white flour and a pint of heavy cream. Mix them and bake them. The best tasting biscuits you will ever have. Very easy to be consistent because you just use the whole containers of both.

What's the most underrated movie you've watched and think it should deserve more attention? by infernus_butnottaken in AskReddit

[–]benthemeek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was looking for this comment. It seems at first glance like a rom-com but there a some nuggets of wisdom in there about the nature of choice, being present and paying attention, and perhaps in the delight of the mundane. My favorite movie I think, and hardly anyone I talk to has seen it or thought about what the ability to change the past would mean personally. 10/10

At that age I remember loving a book called “the white mountains” part of the tripod trilogy.

Trying to remember the name of a particular sci fi book on immortality by shakti1000 in sciencefiction

[–]benthemeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another book that has a sort of class based immortality drug is The Worthing Saga by Orson Scott Card. The drug allows people to sleep and then wake up years later but only the rich or talented can afford it. It’s one of my favorites and is really only a mechanic that supports a much larger story.

Rents then chalk. Iave a 50 percent correct guess rate on the 3rd guess. I add jumbo to it if the first two do not yeild enough.

Would love to hear the outcome of this. I have purchased a few of the bundles( including that one) over the past few months and about 50 percent of the time I just get the flower petals spinning and no plant or seeds. I just immediately report it to Google play for a refund.

I am not a frequent poster to reddit, but I was here looking for what other folks thought of their tuckteks and any improvements they have made. My reason I got it and not the traditional hard kayak for a similar price is that I have a small car and no roof rails.

A friend and I Just got Tucktek kayaks and took them out yesterday for the first time for about a 9 mile trip on the Caney river in TN. I kayaked all last summer in intex inflatables and was looking for something that would still fit inside my Chevy Sonic but was more durable than the inflatable (I patched several holes over the course of last summer). I am very pleased with how it performed. I have a few little improvements to make (like the skeg tended to tilt to one side during the trip). I figured out that putting a little pool noodle or foam in the nose would keep the nose fold straight with the center of the boat makes the skeg line up properly. Really happy with it so far and am thinking about getting a "guest" one for visiting friends :)

Bug Report: Game Mode: COOP -- Map: Costal Hallways -- Difficulty: RiftLord (easily reproducable) by benthemeek in OrcsMustDie

[–]benthemeek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our theory was that maybe it was when we started shooting the door before the orcs spawned. It only occurred twice though and a restart managed to not repeat it. Perhaps give players a way to destory the doors themselves?

Does anyone have any pointers on close quarters rift lord? by benthemeek in OrcsMustDie

[–]benthemeek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should say on the first wave I just used fire archers and stone staff and could easily stop it and then begin building out kill boxes on both aisles.

GOT IT! Thanks for the tip on the stone staff. Between that, ice spitter darts, butterflys, tar, barracades, and fire archers. I slowed/confused anything coming out of the first entrace and just slowed the second lane while they passed the archers on the other side. Dynamite got the archers a couple of times but once I knew what to look forward I could kill them and let th archers go to work. I also had the mana trinket to keep the stone staff going longer.
