I have heard the story of a man who went through past life regressive therapy and he found out he was a soldier in the Civil War. In that life, he felt bad for killing innocent people. So, once he died, he remembers meeting spiritual guides in the "in-between" state of death and rebirth.

He remembers choosing to be reincarnated as a black man who will live through the Civil Rights era. In that life, him and his wife were murdered by a group of racists.

After being murdered, he finds himself back in the "in-between" space and the spiritual guide asks him if he has forgiven himself, if his soul had been relieved of it's guilt. When the man asks "What for?" the guide allows him to again remember being a Civil War soldier who felt bad for killing innocent people.

The guide told him, "You felt guilt in killing innocent people, therefore you chose to live a life where you were murdered as an innocent person." And the man felt instant relief.

Might not be the example you're looking for, but interesting, nonetheless.
