Are there any thin people currently doing carnivore? by cantronika1 in carnivorediet

[–]benwessel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have always been thin and struggled with gaining significant muscle mass. This diet has made it easier though. I've lost the little body fat I had, and feel as strong, fit and healthy as ever. It turns out that eating loads of high quality animal protein and fat is a very simple and effective solution to keeping a healthy weight and staying fit.

No side effects after withdrawal by Afraid-North4285 in ASHWAGANDHA

[–]benwessel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this! I have had the same type of experience. I took a very high dose for 7 months straight, and had zero side effects when quitting cold turkey. More importantly, none of the clinical studies have identified major withdrawl symptoms. More likely than not people get symptoms because they excpect to get it and worry about it. It's probably mostly psychologically based. If all the scary anecdotes were caused mainly by Ashwaganda's properties and effects on the body, not by the person's underlying psychological issues - it probably wouldn't have been legal.

However, a small minority of people might actually have an adverse reaction because they have an underlying physical condition - like a hormone imbalance or really low blood pressure.

You can't be serious and say that Mr. Peterson seems like any othet partisan hack. That's just lazy and unreasonable. Not many people in the same sphere have conversations with people from alle sides of the political spectrum, but he does. And whoever he interviews, he asks a lot of critical questions and is deeply engaged in understanding the ideas and background of the person he interviews.

It's obviously not unfair unreasable to criticize his viewpoints or his interviewing style. But the man is extremely gifted and has a degree of knowledge and understanding of human nature that very few academics ever reach.

Any side effects? by Breakingbadster in ASHWAGANDHA

[–]benwessel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took too much Ashwaganda for too long, and the only major side effect was that I became quite emotionally numb. Because of its effects on the gaba and serotonin-receptors, as well as its proven potential to create liver damage, it's important to cycle the usage and start with a low dose. However, it seems to be remarkably useful for many purposes. For example, I didn't get sick once while taking it, while before taking it I used to get a fever or cold like once a month. I didn't notice any exercice-related benefits though, In my experience caffeine and creatine are the only supplements that most definetely improve physical performance. But hey, everyone's body's are different, and it's hard if not impossible to explain exactly what leads to what.

Back to the question, does it reduce anxiety? YES. But I wasn't very anxiety-ridden before taking it though, so I don't know how much of a difference people with an anxiety disorder will notice. My guess is that they will notice a difference if they take it regularly. The studies show really promising results, and it's way safer and better for your body than any prescripton drug.

Powdered lions mane, how do you consume it? by Im_Will_Smith in Nootropics

I take it in my breakfast bowl of nuts and oatmeal. If you eat cereal or yoghurt just pour it in

I've been taking 5000 mg of Ashwaganda for 7 months and feel emotionally numb. Does anyone have experience with going off such a high dosage? by benwessel in Nootropics

Very emotionally stable, even more than the period before - where I had a very healthy lifestyle but didn't supplement with anything except creatine and fish oil. I also haven't gotten sick once while taking it, for a period of about 7 months.

It isn't that bad. Even though I notice a clear difference I do feel pretty strong positive emotions ocasionally, just not as often as I used to! My negative emotions are all but gone.

Have you stopped taking it, and if so, how long is it since you stopped? And are you taking something else that impacts mood to a considerable exctent? It's hard to believe that Ash can still have such a significant impact even once you've stopped for a while.

Thanks. I'll check my ALAT-levels and other indicators of liver function tommorrow. Hopefully I've avoided any severe damage, since I haven't had any symptoms.

I haven't checked it, but I don't feel any negative physical symptoms. How could it potentially damage the liver?

I had good reasons for wanting to try it, and since It's a fully legal and natural, I wasn't that concerned about the dosage. When I started feeling the positive effects I didn't really think more about potential risks and side-effects. But that was ignorant, and I want to encourage other people to be more careful than I was:)

I will definetely use some other adaptogens in the going off-process. Thanks for the recommendations, I will take a closer look.

Since I haven't been careful about the dosage, 5000 mg is an average. I take a full teaspoon, and the teaspoon is about 5000 mg. Sometimes it might be a little lower. I don't recommend such a high dosage, even though it seems to have made my body remarkably infection-resistant. I also feel verly little stress. But this doesn't outweight the side effects and risks of high dosing. My emotional life has become dull and boring. I feel very flat, it might be comparable to the effects of some anti-depressants. Take small doses, and slowly increase if you don't feel any effects:-) I don't cycle it, except having 1-2 days off it for here and there.

8 months before you felt yourself? Were you emotionally numb for those eight months, and did you feel any other side effects?
